I’m thinking of buying a new quality mattress

I’m a 71 year old 13 stone man. Requiring a new super king mattress

I’m a side sleeper that has developed pain in the shoulder and hip area after sleeping on one side and subsequently turning over to the other side. When doing so the pain lasts a while until I fall back to sleep .

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your question. It sounds like your current mattress is too firm for you. If the comfort is too firm, especially for side sleepers, this can cause pressure pains in your shoulders and hips, or you can pivot on these areas, which puts pressure on your lower spine. If you have a foam mattress, adding a soft-density natural latex mattress topper to your mattress may provide you with additional cushioning. If you have a fibre filled mattress, a microfibre or wool mattress topper would provide your shoulders and hips with an additional comfort layer.

We would recommend either soft or medium upholstery layers, depending on your comfort preferences. Our softest upholstery mattress is the Artisan Luxury, which has a softer medium level of comfort in the 100% natural fibre upholstery layers and handmade calico pocket springs, making this one of our most breathable mattresses. If you prefer a more supportive feel but still with cushioning in the top layers for your shoulders and hips, our two most popular medium upholstery mattresses are the Origins Pocket 1500 and the Artisan Naturals.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Spring tension is based on your height and body weight to provide you with the correct level of support. We would pair you with the medium spring tension, which will allow your body to find its own level and not be forced into an unnatural position.

I hope this helps, and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
