Replacing a Sealy Nostromo Posturepedic 1400

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 0 comments

Hello,

I am seeking recommendations for a new mattress to replace our Sealy Nostromo Posturepedic 1400 Springs, which we have used for seven years. My partner has scoliosis, so we have always chosen very firm mattresses to ensure appropriate support.

Recently, I have been waking up with aches and generally feeling unrested, despite consistently getting 8–9 hours of undisturbed sleep. This change has prompted me to reconsider our choice of mattress.

We are both under 6 feet tall and weigh between 70 and 80 kg. Could you recommend a high-quality mattress that would suit someone with scoliosis and address issues with waking up achy and unrested? I’m willing to invest in a premium option that offers a long-term solution.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your question. It seems that your Sealy Nostromo Posturpedic 1400 mattress has been discontinued which can make it difficult to gain information about the construction. This is a firm onesided mattress with latex as the comfort layer. The pocket springs don't have any gauge or tension provided, knowing this is essential when looking for a new mattress. Pocket springs are made with weight tolerances, which is why you always should choose the spring tension based on your height and body weight. The correct level of support will help to keep your spine aligned without being forced into an unnatural postion. At your body weights, we would pair you with the medium spring tension.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

More often than not retailers mistakenly list the 'comfort' of the mattress as the spring tension which can be quite confusing, the level of comfort comes from the upholstery fillings, not the spring unit. When considering which comfort layers would be the most suitable, you should consider both your sleep positions and comfort preferences. We do not recommend firm upholstery for side sleepers as this can cause pressure pains in your shoulders, hips and knees. Likewise, we do not recommend soft upholstyer for front and back sleepers as this can cause lower back pain.

Our closest mattress in terms of consturction is our Origins Pocket Latex 1500. The support is provided by medium springs as standard, however, if your partner is used to a very firm support, this mattress is available with the 2000 spring option which we normally recommend for customers who weigh over 105 kg. We also have a dual spring tension available for the zip and link option in kingsize and above. This mattress has two layers of Talalay latex which provides a progressive supportive feel.  Latex requires pressure to be able to mould to you which means the lighter your body weight, the firmer the mattress will feel and vice versa. At your body weights, this mattress will provide a firmer medium overall level of comfort.

If you would prefer a two sided mattress that you can turn it each month to help even out natural settlement and get longer lifespan, you could consider our Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000,  It features two tiers of pocket springs which which provide a progressive, bouncier support and a true medium level of comfort in the 85% natural fibre upholstery layres,  natural fibres are much more breathable than manmade fibres, providing a cooler sleep surface and help regulating your body temperature, they are also more durable than synthetic fibres and foams.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
