Wooden headboards

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 0 comments

We are looking to replace our 30 year old double pocket sprung bed with drawers with a king size. My husband is just under 13 stone and I am 9.5 stone. We are both up and down a couple of times at night and I'd like to reduce disturbance for each of us.

I would prefer a wooden headboard. Is that possible?

I have also used a waterproof mattress protector. How do you protect your mattresses from spills?

What bed, headboard and mattress combination would you recommend?

Hi Delyth,

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we do not have wooden headboards within our range. However, both the Artisan pocket sprung base and the Contemporary platform base have standard UK headboard fittings which means you can add any headboard to them.

When looking for a new mattress, your sleep positions and comfort preferences are important to consider. The comfort layers within each mattress determine how it will feel. If you are side sleepers, softer or medium upholstery layers are more suitable. We recommend medium upholstery layers for back sleepers so that shoulders and hips can sink in a little, which means the lower back is also supported. For front sleepers, either medium or firm upholstery layers are recommended, depending on how you like the mattress to feel. If you sleep in any combination, we recommend medium upholstery layers, which are suitable for all sleep positions. Our most popular medium upholstery mattresses are the Artisan Naturals and the Origins Pocket 1500.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

At your body weights, we would pair both you and your husband with the medium spring tension. This will provide you both with the correct level of support which will allow your bodies to find their own levels and not be forced into an unnatural position.

Pocket springs provide less motion disturbance than open coil or Bonnell springs. This is due to each spring being housed in individual pockets. Only the springs that you are sleeping on move, whilst the surrounding springs are still. The best way to eliminate motion transfer is with a zip and link mattress. This option is also ideal if you have limited access, and they are much easier to turn over.

The proper care and maintenance of your new mattress is essential to prolong the lifespan of the mattress. Part of this is adding a mattress protector. Unlike many years ago, when waterproof mattress protectors were sheets of rubber that crickled every time you moved, you can now purchase breathable waterproof mattress protectors. These will protect the mattress from any spills but will still allow your mattress to breathe, which is great for natural fibre mattresses, as they can still help you to regulate your body temperature, and you can turn over without making a sound.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
