How to bridge the zip area of my king size zip and link

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 0 comments

Hi, I’ve had my zip and link mattress for some years now and although they’re generally very comfortable, my daughter prefers to hop into our bes from time to time and sleeps in the middle, zip area of the bed. I’ve realised the zip area is not as comfortable as she complains of back pain in the morning. I have tried it too and realised the slight dip in the zip area sinks in and made my back bad too. Is there a product I can buy to bridge the gap so the entire bed is comfortable? Thank you

Hi Yvonne,

Thank you for your question. Zip and link mattresses are a great option if you have limited access to get a larger mattress to your room of choice. These mattresses are designed to be easily connected or separated, making them particularly convenient for narrow hallways or staircases where manoeuvring a larger mattress would be difficult. Additionally, they eliminate motion disturbance, which means that if one person moves on their side of the bed, the other person is less likely to feel those movements. This can lead to a more restful night’s sleep for both individuals.

Moreover, zip and link mattresses are much easier to turn over compared to traditional mattresses, which can be quite heavy and cumbersome. This feature allows for easier maintenance and care, helping to prolong the life of your mattress. However, it is important to note that some individuals may be sensitive to the zipped area where the two mattress halves connect. This sensitivity can lead to discomfort during sleep. To address this, you might consider adding a separate mattress topper, which can create a more uniform sleeping surface. Alternatively, placing a spare duvet under your sheet can also help to even out any potential bumps or seams. While these adjustments can improve comfort, it’s worth mentioning that adding a topper or duvet may soften the overall feel of your mattress. This isn't ideal if you already love the comfort and support your current mattress provides.

There is a relatively new product available called a zip and link bed bridge, which is designed specifically to enhance the comfort and functionality of zip and link mattresses. This innovative accessory consists of a T-shaped piece of foam that sits snugly between your unzipped mattresses, effectively forming a seamless bridge between the two halves. This foam bridge not only helps to reduce the gap between the mattresses but also serves to minimise any potential discomfort caused by the zipped area where the two mattresses connect.  To ensure that the mattresses remain securely joined, the bed bridge comes with adjustable straps or velcro attachments, depending on the kit you choose. These straps wrap around both mattresses, holding them firmly together and preventing any movement that could create an uneven sleeping surface. By using a zip and link bed bridge, you can enjoy the flexibility of having two separate mattresses while still experiencing the sensation of a unified sleeping surface. This makes it an excellent solution for couples who may have different firmness preferences or for those who simply want to maximise their sleeping comfort without sacrificing the benefits of a zip and link mattress system.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
