Hi Jacqueline,

Thank you for contacting us regarding a new mattress. We understand that choosing the right mattress is a crucial decision for your comfort and well-being.

It's essential to ensure that you not only find the right level of support but also the perfect balance of comfort for your needs.   The support comes from the internal spring unit, which is tailored to your body weight and height. In contrast, the comfort level is determined by the upholstery fillings, which cater to your preferred sleeping positions.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

At your body weight of 8.5 stone, we would recommend a medium level of support to ensure that your spine is properly aligned during sleep.  Since you identify as a side sleeper, it’s particularly important to have adequate cushioning for your shoulders, hips, and knees. These areas are prone to pressure pain, and a softer level of comfort can help alleviate any discomfort by allowing these pressure points to sink slightly into the mattress.  It’s also essential to keep in mind that mattress firmness can feel different based on your weight. Generally, the lighter you are, the firmer a mattress may feel to you, as your body will exert less pressure on the surface. Therefore,  a softer comfort level is advisable given your sleeping position and weight.  However comfort is subjective so it depends upon the level of comfort you would require.

As you are menopausal, natural fibres provide the coolest sleeping surfaces. Wool is temperature regulating so if you are experiencing night sweats and temperature fluctuations, these fibres wick away moisture while providing insulation when required.   Cotton is also very breathable and horsehair allows air to circulate enabling heat to escape and cool air to circulate. The fibres are able to essentially regulate your temperature far better than any synthetic foam or fabric can.    Mattresses which contain memory foam tend to lead to overheating as these types of mattresses require your body heat in order to soften them down.

The mattresses within our Artisan Range contain natural fibres and come with differing levels of comfort.   The Artisan Luxury is the softest mattress that we make and contains 100% natural fibres along with calico encased pocket springs which are again very breathable.
