Pros and cons of down and feather toppers?

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 0 comments

I love having a soft layer on top of my mattress and always use qa mattress topper. I need one that can be washed and have spotted a number of toppers with both a goose down washable layer and also a goose feather layer that would need less regularly to be washed in a large professional machine and drier. Anything synthetic is not an option as I am a hot sleeper. What are the pros and cons of going down this route and do you have any hints for choosing the best for my soon to be delivered Artisan mattress?

Hi Ailsa,

Thank you for reaching out with your inquiry about goose down and goose feather toppers.

A high-quality mattress topper provides an extra layer of comfort that alleviates pressure on areas like your shoulders and hips, while still maintaining the essential support from your mattress beneath.

Both Goose Down and Goose Feather toppers offer a plush, cloud-like comfort while effectively regulating temperature, ensuring you stay cool during the summer and cozy in the winter.

It's important to consider any potential allergies you may have to these materials, as they could trigger symptoms like sneezing or wheezing for some individuals upon waking.

Your mattress is a valuable investment, often costing £1000 or more for high-quality craftsmanship. A mattress topper serves as a protective layer, absorbing daily wear and tear, as well as body oils, sweat, and skin cells that might otherwise seep into your mattress. When the topper starts to show signs of wear after years of use, you can easily replace it at a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire mattress.

To maintain your topper properly, please refer to the manufacturer's instructions. It's important to wash it on a gentle cycle using a mild detergent, and avoid fabric softeners to protect the goose down and feathers. After washing, make sure to shake the topper to fluff the fibers and ensure it dries completely, as any moisture left can lead to mildew. For optimal care, you might consider using a professional cleaning service.
