Sleeping on top of a slew of material does the material of waterproof mattress protector matter?
Mattress protector quality question. Although I like the idea of a top mattress cover, in that I never so much as touch the sheets because I sleep on top of a very thick cotton bedspread almost as thick as a mover's blanket, should I even invest in a top-of-the-line mattress cover? My bed is new and was $1,000 at Macy's and I am wondering if any cotton waterproof mattress cover will do because I literally sleep so far from the actual mattress. I do this because I cannot stand making a bed every day hence I was the bedding every two weeks and the bed always looks made. Please let me know if a top mattress cover would make a big difference, somewhat of a difference, a little difference, or none at all given how I keep my bed. I should buy it in the next couple of days if I am going to.
Hi Mike,
Thank you for your question. The primary function of a mattress protector is to protect your investment in your mattress from perspiration, as you can lose up to half a pint a night, along with body oils and dead skin cells. Over time, without proper protection, these substances can penetrate deep into the mattress, leading to unpleasant odours, discolouration, and even potential health concerns due to the buildup of allergens and dust mites.

A cotton mattress protector is an excellent choice for everyday use. It provides a breathable layer that helps to wick away moisture while keeping your mattress clean and extending its lifespan. Given your setup, a cotton protector will serve you well by safeguarding against the natural wear and tear that occurs over time. A waterproof mattress protector offers additional benefits. It not only protects against perspiration and body oils but also defends your mattress from accidental spills and stains, which can be particularly important if you have small children or pets sharing your bed. Waterproof protectors are designed with materials that resist liquid penetration, ensuring that any spills are easily wiped away without damaging the mattress underneath. If your household includes young kids or furry friends, investing in a waterproof protector would be a wise decision to keep your mattress in pristine condition for years to come.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
