Alternative to Simba mattress
Hi,
My boyfriend and I bought our first home together recently and subsequently purchased our first mattress.
We bought a Simba mattress but have decided to send it back. I get really hot at night and find that the mattress doesn't help to keep me cool.
Also my boyfriend is a side sleeper and is finding the Simba is too firm for him to sleep on his side. He wakes up some morning with quite sore ribs.
So ideally we need something softer and cooler than the Simba.
I've looked around the site and think your Origins Pocket 1500 Mattress would be a good fit for us if we select the medium firmness.
Do you agree with this?
Thanks,
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
Many thanks for your question about alternatives to the Simba foam boxed mattress. We often get asked about these new rolled memory foam mattresses with people having issues with them after a few weeks. In fact, the Guardian exposed a worrying trend with Simbas mattress quality and guarantee terms. Ie there are many frustrated customers suffering as the guarantee is not holding weight. With many complaints, their mattresses are causing ridges (due to the fact no doubt that they are one sided so can't be turned).
The main issue is the same one you're dealing with. These memory foam mattresses get incredibly hot during the night. As they are a one size fits all mattress their support and comfort layers tend to be firmer so they accommodate the heavier sleeper more than the lighter sleeper it seems. They're made to try and fit the majority but don't, therefore, offer any tailored comfort for anything other than the middle ground sleeper.
For side sleepers, you actually need softer upholstery fillings in a mattress than if you're a back or front sleeper.
You're right to think our Origins Pocket 1500 is a worthy alternative. It would be the model we would recommend.
Compared to the Simba (and myriad of other boxed foam mattresses like Emma, Eve, Casper, Made and LEESA models) our Origins 1500 is two-sided. Meaning it has a far longer shelf life that the one-sided foam models that are boxed and rolled.
The pocket spring unit is far more responsive and reduces transference when compared to heat retentive synthetic memory foams. it will be far cooler and slightly softer in the top layer than your Simba one sided mattress.
