Mr G

Hi - firstly thank you for your excellent website and the library of Q & As - invaluable. My wife and I currently have a Zip and Link Feather and Black Fitzgerald mattresses with different tensions, she likes soft and I'm more a medium man. She is around 5ft and about 9st and I am 5ft 7inches and 13st 7lbs - yes I know I should lose a few lbs..... The mattress is on a sprung slatted base and we have replaced the original slats as many of these had collapsed. We have noted your recommendations about boarding with 3mm MDF or ply - great tip.
Having recently helped some good friends in their search for a new mattress we have test driven a number of Vi-Spring mattresses and fell in love with the Tiara Superb. This being way out of our budget we were led by Google to you and have virtually made up our minds to purchase an Artisan Bespoke 002, zip and link with one mattress soft and one medium. Hopefully we are on the right track so far?
My question is about toppers. Reading through previous posts I note that you have previously advised someone purchasing an Artisan Mattress to defer purchasing a topper and sleep on the bed for at least 14 days before making any decision. On the other hand, you have elsewhere extolled both the comfort, protection and longevity benefits of a topper, all of which make a lot of sense.
What would you recommend?
