Best mattress
Hi
I’m a 83kg solo side sleeper.
I’ve currently got a dusk 2000 memory foam mattress that I’m returning as it makes me too hot (I sleep hot).
I was looking at your origin range but can’t choose between medium or firm. I generally like a medium/firm feel - for instance a premier inn mattress is about the right level of firmness for me (though I don’t want to buy this after reading your post about pillow toppers).
Please could you let me know if you think medium or firm would be best?
Thank you
Dan
Hi Dan,
Thank you for your question. Premier Inn used to have a contract with Hypnos for their mattresses. This mattress is a medium comfort pillowtop mattress. This is a one-sided mattress, which means you can not prolong the lifespan by regularly turning the mattress over. Our closest mattress to this mattress is the Origins Pocket 1500. If you add a separate mattress topper to this mattress, it will replicate the feel of a pillowtop mattress but both parts are fully turnable and once the topper reaches the end of its life, you can just replace it and not the whole mattress.

In 2023, Premier Inn partnered with Silentnight for its mattresses. This model is again one-sided but has a replaceable zip-off topper. This contains Geltex, which is part of the memory. Memory foam utilises body heat to be able to mould to your body, which is unable to dissipate, which can make many people overheat. The overall feel of this mattress is a firmer medium level of comfort. Our closest mattress to this is the Origins Pocket Latex 1500. Latex provides the same moulding sensation as memory foam, but is not heat-retentive and has an instant response rather than the slow return to shape provided by memory foam.

Both Origins mattresses have a medium spring tension, which will provide you with the correct level of support for your body weight.
| Bodyweight | Spring tension |
|---|---|
| Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
| 16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
| Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
As a lone sleeper, you will need to utilise the whole of the sleep surface to even out the settlement of the upholstery fibres. If you only sleep in one position on the mattress, the upholstery will settle where you are lying, but will leave the surrounding upholstery like new. This will appear as if the layers have sagged, but this is not the case. By sleeping in different positions on the mattress, the upholstery layers will settle evenly across the surface.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards
Michaela
