Best non-latex pillow top
We have a Sealy Adelaide that's 10 years old and needs replacing (the Adelaide uses Geltex which has lasted very well - it's just the pillow top that had started to sag).
My wife is allergic to latex and doesn't like the feel of memory foam and I don't want to go down the fully organic route as I feel that the foam based construction make for more comfortable mattresses in our c. £1500-2000 budget.
What would you recommend please?
Hi Graeme,
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, it seems that your Sealy Adelaid mattress has been discontinued, which makes it difficult to make any comparisons. We do know that this mattress has a firm level of support with 1400 pocket springs and 1400 micro HD springs along with a deep Geltex layer. Geltex is a gel-infused foam which provides the same moulding sensation as memory foam, but it is more breathable than standard memory foam.

We would not pair anyone with the firm spring tension unless their body weight was over 16. 5 stone. Anyone under this body weight doesn't weigh enough to activate the firm springs, which means they are not supported by the springs. We do not use micro HD springs as they do not offer anything in the way of support, but do take up space where more comfort layers could be.
| Bodyweight | Spring tension |
|---|---|
| Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
| 16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
| Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
The only mattress within our range that has a similar construction and overall feel is the Origins Pocket Latex 1500. Although latex that is used within mattresses is different to the latex gloves that a lot of people are allergic to, as the proteins in natural latex that trigger allergies are primarily removed during manufacturing through washing and vulcanisation (heat treatment), it is understandable that you do not want to purchase a mattress that contains latex.

If you have liked your mattress and had no issues with it in terms of comfort and support, I would recommend contacting Sealy to see if they can tell you the closest comparison to your current mattress.
I hope this helps, and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
