When advising on the most appropriate mattress we take into account body weight(s), preferred feel and budget, the former of which you have provided. Based on your body weights alone, we would advise a split spring tension in the mattress, medium for you and firm for your husband. The spring tension is determined by your weight as the springs need to provide sufficient support for that weight, whereas the upholstery layers will provide the comfort, or as it is more usually referred to, the feel.

Based purely on your body weights, you could look at the Origins Pocket 1500 in a zip and link set with one half having 1500 springs and the other having 2000 springs. This would provide the support for both of your body weights and provide an overall medium feel for you both in the man made upholstery. In the Origins range, the only way you can have a split tension is b y selecting a zip and link set. The mattresses in the Origins range have a standard medium tension spring with differing upholstery providing different feels.

Split spring tension mattresses are available in our Artisan range in one piece products in king size and above. This range features natural upholstery throughout, but is is difficult to recommend a specific model without knowledge of your preferred feel as the upholstery layers in this range do provide differing levels of comfort. Having said that, please view the Artisan Naturals, which is the best selling product in the Artisan range and is described as the 'true medium'. As you mentioned you suffer with a bad back we would not recommend anything too firm in the upholstery layers as this will only worsen your problems.
