Comparison with Herdy sheep mattress
Hi how do your mattresses compare with the new Herdy Sheep brand who offer 6000 springs in all natural materials. It's a no turn mattress and I have had experience of a John Lewis 4000 spring mattress which after 6 years was like cotton wool (horrible to sleep on) so I am looking for something comfortable not to firm not to soft once which. Mounds or your body shape suitable for a slatted bed base (recently covered with 3mm plywood). Can you advise please.
Hi Andrea,
Thank you for your question.
Having looked online at the Herdy Sheep mattress, as we often find, not a lot of information is disclosed about the materials inside or the construction.
Given that it has 6000 springs inside and is only a 1 sided mattress, there has to be a compromise somewhere. Our own mattresses often have 1500 pocket springs inside meaning that we can then inundate the mattress with fillings and fibres to make a luxurious feeling mattress. At 6000 pocket springs the space for fillings and materials is much more limited.
Being a 1 sided mattress the lifespan is also automatically decreased; The vast majority of our models are fully turnable allowing for flipping and rotation.
I would guide you towards our Artisan range and advise that you look at our Artisan Naturals model. This is the true medium feeling model in it's range; I.e, not too soft nor too firm and very much in line with what you're looking for.

However, we would need to know your body weight and the weight of anyone else using the mattress in order to match you to the correct spring. The spring is what gives support from within the mattress itself.
This model is fine to go on to a slatted bed base as long s the gaps are no bigger than 3" but as you have placed plywood down already this is also acceptable.
I hope that this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact me on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
