A customer asked

Hello, I have been reading your very informative website with great interest as we research for our new bed/mattress.
We will be choosing a pocket sprung construction, however our custom made bed base will have sprung wooden slats.
Will this be suitable for a pocket spring mattress or should we look to change this?
I look forward to your recommendation, thank you

Hi Andrew,

All of our mattresses are suitable for slatted bases, however, you should look at the slats and establish the width of the gaps between them. If they are under 5cm, you will need to place an old duvet or blanket over them to protect the underside of the mattress and prevent it from forcing into the gaps when you are sleeping on it.

If they are wider apart, we would recommend placing this (3-5mm) MDF sheeting over the whole area providing a uniform surface upon the mattress will sit. T

his latter action will also reduce the risk of ridging occurring due to the central support bar on the base and will make any mattress placed on the bed feel slightly firmer that it would otherwise.

Here is a look at our two pocket sprung ranges, we have our Origins range this is our starter range of pocket sprung mattresses and these come with man made fibres.

We also have our Artisan range, these are mattresses with calico spring units and also contain natural fibres.

I trust that this is of some help, if you require any further assistance please call our office on 0161 437 4419

Kind regards Mike.
