Double bed mattress; lower back issues

Tanya

Hi Ryan and John,
I am looking to buy a mattress for a lift-up storage bed (W145 x H115 x D205cm); not sure whether this requires a small double or standard double mattress.
I am 168cm tall and having recently given birth to our baby boy, currently weigh 77kg (although my usual weight is in the 68-72kg range and I am working to lose the excess in the next few months). I suffer from lower back issues (3 surgeries already; now feeling ok) as well as occasional sciatica and shoulder pain.
I prefer the soft feel of 5-star luxury hotel beds but am concerned those might not be good for me in the long run, given my lower back problems.
I am also a hot sleeper.
The last two mattresses we've had were memory foam though I am not sure of the foam height. While I liked them in the beginning, one of them felt very bouncy and the other sagged too quickly. They didn't feel equally comfortable when sleeping on my side and back, and I like both positions.
My husband is 169cm tall and weighs 72 kg. No health issues. No specific mattress feel preferences, but probably medium. He loves sleeping on his stomach; can't at all sleep on his side (and snores a lot when sleeping on his back!). He tosses and turns a lot at night, which disturbs my sleep.
Could you recommend two options to consider from your collections (probably not Origins) given the above? Production and delivery period is key: we need the mattress in 4 weeks.
On a different note, do you manufacture baby cot mattresses? I don't see anything of the sort on your website, but given the importance of mattress choice during the early years of spinal development, thought it's worth asking.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Tanya,

You're right in that the super soft luxury sink feeling you get in hotel mattresses is not always a good idea long term. For a few nights, yes, they can feel lovely but long-term sometimes they don't offer enough support.

Given the fact you've had issues with memory foam I'd avoid similar products such as hybrid foams.

Latex may be an idea to consider given its super responsive, natural and breathable. Great if you need to sleep in a variety of positions and be able to turn quickly etc.  I'd recommend you have a look at our Fusion 3.

Artisan Naturals mattress

In the Artisan range, have a look at the Artisan Naturals in a medium spring tension. This is firmer than the Fusion 3 in the top layer and won't offer as much sink. It's a calico encased pocket sprung and natural fibre mattress.

Both of these models are two-sided and fully turnable. All of our mattresses are handmade to order here in the UK and we have a lead time of 3-4 weeks from order to delivery for all of our ranges. It may be worthwhile ringing us and speaking to Marie about the latest order date to meet your 4-week requirement.

We are in the middle of developing some 100% natural cot mattresses, but they are not ready for release yet. I can, however, get back in touch when we do launch them if you would like?

I hope that helps, if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
