Ikea Hyllestad Topper Damaged and replacement?
I have an Ikea Hyllestad 90cm x 200cm sized mattress.
Unfortunately one of my children had an accident on it and although we had a mattress cover fitted it went straight through and badly soiled the mattress.
Although it says do not wash I have tried washing on a cool wash followed by air drying. Unfortunately, it has shrunk and seems impossible to get back on. Do you know of any manufacturers who could supply a suitable replacement?
I tried IKEA and they couldn't help.
Hi Bernie,
Many thanks for your question about IKEA mattresses and how to repair one that's been damaged.
Unfortunately, there's no way to machine wash a mattress once it's been soiled or damaged. The best method is to sponge wash and air dry. Never use a heat source such as a hairdryer which can cause the mattress to warp and deform.
It's hard to tell from your comment whether you've asked IKEA for a replacement cover or mattress topper?
Our advice would be to replace the protector and or add a topper. We sell 100% Natural Latex toppers but they probably cost half as much as a new mattress given their high-end quality. It may be better to replace the mattress altogether if you can't find a suitable topper or protector. Given your IKEA mattress is only one sided you can't turn it over either which is a shame.
Next time you're looking for a new mattress have a look at our Origins Pocket 1500 which is at a similar price point but two sided and features a higher GSM of natural upholstery fillings too.
Origins Pocket 1500 Mattress
1: 300GSM WOOL
2: 750GSM VERY SOFT POLYESTER
3: 500GSM POLYESTER PAD
4: ONE INCH FOAM INSULATOR LAYER
5: 1500 SPUN BOND POCKET SPRINGS
TOTAL: 1550GSM
DEPTH: 30-33CM
Good luck with your search to fix your mattress and sorry there's no 'silver bullet' offered for your problem.
Sleep Well.
