Mattress Advice Origins Range
Hello,
I have given a read of some of your articles but thought I'd also get your opinion before purchasing.
My budget is on the lower end of what you offer. I am 6ft 2 currently 107kg but can be 95kg when doing better. Because of the height, while heavy, I am not wide.
I really enjoy the feeling of sinking into a bed as I fall asleep which is important to me. However I need enough support to where my hips are not sinking so low which currently causes me pain. However I do not like the feeling of a firm or hard surface or more specifically bottoming out on it which can cause pressure pain also on my hips.
I prefer to fall asleep on my back in the right conditions but find myself often side sleeping and turning around a lot due to a poor mattress.
Thank you
Hi Issac,
We appreciate you reaching out to us about finding the perfect mattress to ensure you enjoy a restful night's sleep.
When selecting a new mattress, it's essential to find the right balance between support and comfort. Support is primarily provided by the internal spring unit, which is tailored to your height and weight, while comfort comes from the upholstery fillings which are on top of the springs. This comfort level often depends on your preferred sleeping positions whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach.
At your body weight and height, we would recommend a firmer level of support and this would be the case whichever of our mattresses you purchased.
| Bodyweight | Spring tension |
|---|---|
| Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
| 16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
| Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
Since you sleep on your side and back, a medium comfort level will offer the right cushioning for your shoulders and hips while also maintaining proper spinal alignment when you lie on your back.

The Origins Range of mattresses features traditional pocket sprung construction, which is designed to provide superior support and comfort. Within this impressive range, we offer the Origins Pocket 1500 model, which is specifically crafted to cater to your needs. This model can be customized with a 2000 pocket sprung unit, enhancing the firmness and ensuring that you receive the support that is essential for your body type. What sets pocket sprung mattresses apart is their unique design, where individual springs are encased in pockets, allowing them to move independently. This means that as you shift positions during the night, the mattress will contour to your body’s shape, providing targeted support exactly where you need it most. On top of this spring unit, you will find upholstery fillings that strike the perfect balance between softness and firmness. Rated as medium on the comfort scale, these fillings ensure that you don’t sink too deeply into the mattress while still offering a gentle cushioning for your shoulders and hips—key areas that require extra attention, especially when sleeping on your side. This combination promotes proper spinal alignment when you lie on your back, making the Origins Pocket 1500 an excellent choice for your sleeping preferences. However this does depend on the type of mattress which you are used to sleeping on as this mattress is a traditional tufted mattress. If you are sleeping on a memory foam or latex mattress, this will offer a different sleeping sensation as with memory foam or latex they have a moulding sensation which is different to a traditional tufted mattress and the only way to describe this is that you sleep on our mattresses rather than in them.
It's also crucial to consider the type of base that your mattress will be placed on, as this can significantly influence its overall feel and performance. The Origins Range of mattresses is designed to be used on a platform base, but they can also be placed on a slatted base. If you opt for a slatted base, please ensure that the gaps between the slats do not exceed 7.5 cm. Larger gaps could compromise the support the mattress provides so you would need to add either MDF or Plywood over the slatted area to provide a solid area for the mattress. If the gaps are less than 7.5 cm, we still recommend adding a protective layer over the slats, such as an old duvet or blanket, to enhance the mattress's longevity and comfort.

I hope the above has provided you with enough information however should you require further advice or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with our friendly team.
Kind regards Julie Collier
