Mattress choice / firmness
Hi - I am 5 7" tall and nearly 11 stone. I have a chronic lower back problem and can only feel comfortable for a short time presently in a side or mainly foetal position. I have tried a bruno mattress for 2 weeks but it is too soft, difficult to change position given my back pain and I tend to run hot at night and the bed can run too warm for me. I need advice on the firmness of mattress and mattress type as I cant remember last time I slept for more than an hour or so and get confused and irritated by the sales blurb you get when going into bed shops
Hi Rob,
Thank you for your enquiry.
A new mattress should be selected having the following criteria in mind:- body weight, preferred feel, sleeping pattern (side sleeper) and budget. The body weight will dictate the spring tension most appropriate as this will provide the support and the upholstery will provide the comfort.
With your particular body weight, a medium spring tension/feel mattress is most appropriate and the fact that you have advised that you sleep in a side/foetal position would lead us to suggest that soft upholstery is probably best for you. To that end, we would recommend that you view our Origins Comfort 1000, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with soft man-made upholstery. If you prefer natural upholstery, then please view the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit and has layers of soft natural upholstery.
The type of base that these mattresses will be used on may also affect the overall feel. The Comfort is usually paired with a platform topped base, whereas the Luxury is paired with a pocket sprung base, the latter providing a more forgiving feel overall. We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.
Kind regards.
