Mattress dilemma
Hi there,
My husband is 6ft3 and around 14.5-15stone, I am 5ft3 and 7.5-8stone. He prefers a firmer mattress while I favour soft. We have been trialling a Simba mattress bought online but I am struggling with the firmness and seem to be overheating far more than I was with our previous John Lewis pocket sprung (which I was struggling with comfort-wise waking with pins and needles, cramp etc but it was a 10yr old mattress).
My husband is fine with the Simba but as I am not we are sending it back. I am now in a quandary as to what best to do and hoping you can help!!! would rather not go the extreme of a dual mattress but not sure where else we go?
Hi Amanda,
Thank you for your question.
The first thing to say is that a mattress such as the Simba cannot, due to the components used and it's construction, suit two people with a weight differential such as yours. This is because with your body weights, you require different levels of support other than those provided by a one tension product. You are in the soft bracket whereas your husband is in the medium bracket. These are the tensions which suit your body weight and provide the correct level of support. The reason for your pins and needles and cramp is likely to be that the Simba product, whilst great for your husband, is too firm for you.
We appreciate you not liking the idea of a dual tension mattress, but as you both require different levels of support, this type of mattress is the one that will give you both the correct support.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
We then come to the upholstery required as this will provide the overall comfort level of the mattress irrespective of the spring tension.
Such split tension mattresses are only available from us in our Artisan range (natural upholstery) in a king size and above in a one piece or zip and link set.. Please view the Artisan Naturals and Artisan Bespoke 004, both of which can have the spring tension selected to suit and both of which have natural upholstery providing a medium feel, i.e..not too soft and not too firm. The Naturals has 85% natural upholstery and the 004 has 100%.
We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.
Kind regards Julie
