Mattress for a Fibromyalgia suffer offering support and comfort
Hi! I’ve just had a look at your article on fibro and different mattress types and was wondering if you could help me find a suitable one for me!
it sounds silly but I struggle with understanding the different types of mattresses and what does what!
I am around 9stone and struggle mainly with my neck, back and hips when it comes to being in bed with my fibro. I barely sleep. I toss and turn and wake up worse off every day! I’ve tried comfy mattress toppers and mattress protectors but nothing seems to help. I too spend a lot of my time in bed due to it which also doesn’t help. I have had a few mattresses over the last year or so given generously and each one just seems to be as bad as the former. From memory foam, to regular spring mattresses.
my partner has also found out he’s suffering with sciatica too so it’s even more important for us to find a suitable mattress for us both :( any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
Hi,
Thank you for contacting us regarding a suitable mattress for a fibromyalgia sufferer.
We’ve spoken to hundreds of Fibromyalgia sufferers around the impact it has on their sleep. Sufferers advise us that they experience disturbed, erratic and uncomfortable nights sleep. This occurs mainly due to the discomfort that the condition causes making it incredibly difficult to get a good nights rest.
When choosing a new mattress, you need to ensure that you not only receive the correct level of support but also the correct level of comfort. Fibromyalgia sufferers tend to require differing levels of comfort. Look at a traditional pocket sprung mattress in two parts, with the support provided by the internal spring unit and is dictated by body weight and height and then all the upholstery layers which are on top of the spring unit providing the level of comfort and is dictated by your sleeping positions.
At your body weight you do require a medium spring tension for support and if your partner is under 17.5st then they too would require a medium support.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
You would need to decide how your would like your new mattress to feel from a comfort point of view. As you are very light at 9st, you could either choose a soft to medium level of comfort which will allow shoulders and hips to sink in reducing the possibility of pressure pain in those areas or an overall medium. However again this would depend on your partner's sleeping position and how they would like their mattress to feel.
As your partner is suffering with sciatica, it used to be advised that someone suffering with a bad back would require a firm level of comfort however again this really is about receiving the correct level of support and comfort and ensuring that the new mattress keeps the spine aligned.
I feel it would be beneficial to you for us to have a chat over the telephone so that I can collate further information which will then enable me to recommend a mattress which will suit all of your requirements. Please could you telephone the office on 0161 437 4419.
