Mattress retaining heat and causing pain
I’m really hoping you may be able to help us with a new mattress. I have problems with fibromyalgia and hypermobile joints - I struggle to get comfortable enough to fall and stay asleep, and wake up in discomfort in my lower back, hips and shoulders every morning. Over the years, we have tried so many different mattresses but have never found the right one.
Currently we have an Flaxby Natures Finest 9,450 but my husband and I find it unbearably hot, and my pain continues. We have tried gel top, latex top, simba, memory foam etc over the years (I have the same problem with pillows but that’s another story!)
Price wise we’d like to keep to something under £1,000 as we have spent so much on others previously! I’m 9 stone and my partner is 13 stone.
Please help!!
Hi Maria,
Thank you for contacting us regarding a new mattress.
As there are so many symptoms relating to Fibromyalgia, its impossible to suggest a one size fits all mattress. Mattress retailers and websites that claim to have a mattress just right for Fibromyalgia should be taken with a pinch of salt. However you can find a suitable mattress that will provide you with both support and the right amount of comfort. However due to the lack of clarity for sufferers, this means that advice needs to be given on a case by case basis as each Fibromyalgia sufferer will have different symptoms.
When selecting a new mattress, it's important to ensure that you receive both the right level of support and comfort. Support comes from the internal spring unit, which is influenced by your body weight and height. On the other hand, comfort is determined by the upholstery fillings on top of the spring unit, which should align with your preferred sleeping positions. For your body weights, a medium spring tension is recommended for adequate support. If you primarily sleep on your side, you might opt for either a soft or medium comfort level. Back sleepers typically benefit from a medium comfort level to keep the spine properly aligned, while stomach sleepers often require a firmer mattress to prevent excessive sinking, which can lead to an unnatural arch in the spine.

The Flaxby Natures Finest mattress does contain natural fibres although we are unsure of the GSM or Grams per square metre of those fibres but should provide you with a cooler sleeping surface as this is how natural fibres work as natural fibres create breathability and durable sleeping surfaces that adapt to your body's needs.
The mattresses which we make that are under £1,000, will contain more man made fibres and are traditional pocket sprung mattresses which have a tufted area. The mattresses which you have tried in the past have a flat sleeping surface and the only mattress which we make which has that same flat sleeping surface and sleeping sensation to memory foam & latex, is our Origins Pocket Latex 1500 which is a firm mattress specially at your body weight of 9st plus we could not guarantee that you would not over heat on this type of mattress.

It may be preferable for you to call our Office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our friendly team in order for us to take specific information as we need to know your sleeping positions and size of mattress that you require.
I hope this assists and look forward to speaking with you in due course.
Kind regards
Julie Collier
