Mattress topper to make tempur mattress less dense?

I bought a tempur mattress for my son's bed. He's disabled and has limited mobility so struggles turning round in bed. Is there a mattress topper I can use to make bed less dense?

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for your question. We always recommend a mattress topper that complements the mattress. As your son's mattress is a Tempur mattress, which is specifically designed to provide support and comfort through its unique memory foam technology, a soft-density memory foam or latex mattress topper would be more suitable to maintain the moulding sensation that the mattress provides. Memory foam mattresses, such as Tempur, are engineered to contour to the body’s shape, distributing weight evenly and alleviating pressure points. By adding a memory foam topper, you enhance this feature, allowing it to adapt to your son's body while he sleeps.

On the other hand, a latex mattress topper offers distinct advantages as well. Latex is known for its superior breathability and responsiveness compared to traditional memory foam. It allows for better air circulation, which can help regulate temperature and keep your son cooler during the night. Additionally, latex tends to be more responsive, which can make it easier to change positions while sleeping, promoting more restful sleep.

If you do choose to add a fibre-filled mattress topper to the Tempur mattress, it's important to note that while it will create a more plush and cushioning feel on the surface, it may also alter the overall firmness of the mattress. This is because memory foam requires body heat to effectively mould to your son’s shape; the warmer it gets, the softer it becomes. By introducing a fibre-filled topper, such as natural fibres or microfibre, you create a barrier that may inhibit the memory foam from responding to his body heat as effectively, potentially leading to a firmer feel than desired.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
