Mattresses for access-restricted rooms

Thanks for your very useful web site that has taught me a lot about mattresses!
I am interested in a quality double mattress, but unfortunately this is for a room with tricky access issues (narrow 180-degree staircase). I cannot see any way to get a non-rolled mattress in there -- getting up the stairs is a non-starter, and even taking the upstairs window out (which I'm reluctant to do) the diagonal is only 52 inches. Since I'm looking for a normal double in size, zip-and-link seems not an option either.
So I have been investigating rolled / vacuum-packed pocket sprung mattresses. Is any of these worth buying? From reading the various other comments, I think your position is no. But with my access problem, do I have any other options? Although apparently discontinued (or so it seems?) I could likely find some stock of the highest-end Harrisons one that is rolled (Platinum 3000).
The obvious alternative is a latex mattress, which I'm guessing should be available rolled (though I've yet to look properly)... any other suggestions on what I should be thinking about to resolve my decision, or any options I've missed? I'd greatly appreciate it... thanks.
Stephen
