Medium Firm Mattress Recommend By Dreams Sleepmatch
Hi,
I have been buying my mattress on Amazon UK and these would not last more than 2/3 years. I’ve already spend close to £500 on those two mattress in the last 4/5 years. I am now considering spending close to £600 or so on a single mattress. I particularly like and felt the most comfortable on “Brixham mattress”. Could you please advise on any alternatives that are around the same price range or less? The issue I have is after two year or so because of my weight (91KG) and overuse (I tend to sit and lie down on my bed for long hours) especially during lockdown period the tends to be a sink in the middle of the mattress. What advise can you give me to maintain the upkeep of my new mattress? Note I do like a layer of memory foam but I want a medium firm mattress as recommend by Dreams. Thank you.
Hi Jamal,
Thank you for your question. The problem with the Sleep Match at Dreams is that it takes into account your body weight but not your comfort preferences or how you sleep. At your body weight, we would pair you with the medium spring tension to give you the correct level of support.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
The comfort layers determine how the mattress feels. When considering which would be the most suitable for your individual needs you want to take into account not only how you want the mattress to feel but also how you sleep. For instance, we do not recommend a firm upholstery for side sleepers as this can cause pressure pains in the shoulders and hips. Likewise, for those that sleep on their front or back, we do not recommend soft upholstery as this can cause lower back and neck pain.
The Dream Team Brixham Combination Mattress is a one-sided mattress with a layer of memory foam (unknown density), a Platinum 3D foam layer (also of unknown density), and 1216 pocket springs in a kingsize, there is no spring tension given but I would guess that they have used a firm spring tension as it is described as 'Firm comfort grade for superior support'. Comfort and support are separate and should be considered independently, the springs for support and the upholstery layers for comfort.
This mattress has a flat sleep surface due to the foam layers whereas a traditional pocket sprung mattress that has 2 sides are tufted to hold the upholstery layers in place which creates dips across the mattress. We have found that customers that are used to the flat sleep surface of foam mattresses sometimes have difficulty adjusting the tufted areas of a traditional mattress and may require a mattress topper to even out the sleep surface. We only have one mattress that has a flat sleep surface, the Origins Pocket Latex 1500 which has latex as the comfort layer which is more responsive and durable than memory foam and is not heat retentive. This mattress is also available with the 2000 spring option for a firmer support.
Domestic mattresses are only designed to be used for an average amount of time, approximately 8 - 10 hours per night which gives the upholstery or foam layers time to rest. Using them for longer periods of time frequently will compress these layers quicker than they should be which limits the lifespan of the mattress. If you need to use the mattress for this more often than average, we would recommend a medical bed that is designed for that purpose.
I hope this helps and if you would like to discuss your individual needs please contact our small friendly team on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
