Natural Fibre Mattress for Sore Shoulders & Back
I'm looking to replace a 10 year old Relyon "Enchantment" king size mattress which has 1020 pockets springs and a Reflex foam pillow top. If I remember correctly, it was described as being a firm mattress when purchased.
We're looking for some advice on which of your mattresses might be good ones to consider as a replacement.
I'm a 5'7", 11.5 stone man. My partner is about the same height and weight. We are both side/front sleepers.
We have two main issues with the current mattress... we both often wake up with sore shoulders and sometimes in the night with pins and needles in our arms. I also get very hot at night, so sleep under a sheet most of the year.
We added a down and feather topper a few years ago which helped with the heat to an extent and makes the bed feel more comfortable and cosy when we get in but we still wake with aches and pains and still get very hot on summer nights.
I imagine foam would help with the aches but I'm concerned that even your cooler foams would still be too hot for me, so thinking something in the artisan range with 100% natural fibres might be good. Having read descriptions and some of the other Q&A's the Artisan Luxury sounds like it could be a good fit?
Hello Ian,
Thank you for your question.
If you are a side sleeper you need to be avoiding anything too firm as this will cause pressure point pains in places such as your hips, shoulders and knees, which you are currently experiencing.
We always also advise avoiding pillowtop mattresses as once that fabric compresses there is absolutely nothing you can do with it.
Being a hot sleeper you are absolutely right that the Artisan range of mattresses would be the ones to look at. They give you the coolest sleep surface you can find due to those materials and fillings.
The Artisan Luxury is our softest mattress in it's upholstery giving a luxurious sink in sensation. It won't be as absorbing as a foam mattress as that moulds to your body shape.
We always advocate using the mattress for 4-6 weeks without a mattress topper first as you need to get a true feel for it. If at that stage you're finding the mattress to be too firm you can add a topper to soften it down.
At your body weights, the Medium spring tension is the correct one for you. Spring tension is determined solely by body weight as this is what supports you.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
