New Hypnos mattress dipping!
Hi, I really wish I had come across your website sooner. I have just received a new Hypnos Pillow Top Emerald Mattress (pillow top probably being my first mistake it would seem!!) and have noticed that when I lie flat on my back I feel as though I am leaning to the left slightly. I thought it could be my imagination, but when I try to roll on to my right hand side, it takes much more effort than to roll on to my left side. I weigh 13 stone. This mattress is medium tension apparently. It has been placed on to a Dreams divan base, brand new but basic, with two drawers, both of which are empty. I think that even the softest of beds should be flat and I shouldnt feel this slight list, but I could be wrong? What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!!
Hi Caz,
Thank you for your questions.
We would always advise to steer clear of pillowtop mattresses. Once the fabric on top settles you will be left with a compressed piece of fabric that you can do nothing with and that also becomes very uncomfortable.
Also being one sided, the lifespan is already limited instantly as you can't evenly distribute the wear and tear across both sides of the mattress. Please see the article here for our advice on mattress care and maintenance.
Any naturally filled mattress will always take time to settle properly; Our own can take up to a year to fully settle. The industry standard for natural settlement is any dip up to 1.5". Anything above this would be covered under a guarantee as it would be classed as unnatural.
At 13 stone we would match you to a Medium spring tension as well. The spring tension is determined solely by your body weight and the spring is what provides the level of support from within the mattress itself.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
This mattress going on to a solid divan base will be fine; It will just feel firmer overall as a solid base will always firm up the feel of a mattress.
I can't really comment on the dip that you're experiencing as I don't know the measurements.
My advice would be to speak to the company you bought the mattress from to see what guarantee period you are under as well as get their advice.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact me on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards Gary.
