Orthosoft mattress is too soft for me

A customer asked

Hi, We are looking to buy a new bed and matress. What base would you recommend divan/slats etc?

What mattress from your range might you Suggest?, I'm 8.5 stone my husband is 12.5 stone. I would like the matress to last so allow some fluctuations in weight (pregnancy/middle aged spread etc!) And of course be comfy!!

Not sure on double or king yet (I'm 5'4", he's 5'10") but it's nice to have room - king size always feels luxurious when we are in a hotel. All my friends go on about the travelodge dreamer but I've not slept on one yet-are yours of similar comfort?

I imagine this feel would suit me as my friends are similar weights to me-my friends partners also like the dreamer and they would be similar weights to my husband-but its only 950 pockets. All the other sleepezee beds have higher pocket counts than the one they do for travelogue. Our budget is movable but likely under 800 for both bed and matress. We currently have the orthosoft matress this is far too firm for me. I have heard it's not good for you to sleep on a soft matress though. My husband is a hot sleeper therefore I think memory foam would be a bad move-I always have a hot water bottle. We both vary between side/back sleeping-occasionally front. Hope that's all the info you need!

Hi Vanessa,

Thanks for all the detail its really helpful.

Unfortunately, the travel lodge dreamer has no specifications given about it.

I'd also advise against other people recommendations on what they find comfortable. It's very subjective you see. We can give specialist mattress advice based on years or designing and building handmade mattresses.

Based on your weights, heights, budget and preferences for a not too firm, not too soft mattress I'd recommend you look at our Origins 1500 mattress and matching the base.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

This will give you a medium feel with some softness in the very top layer but not too much sink. It will also accommodate fluctuations in weight, to a degree!!

As for the base, a platform divan is a sensible option as it gives the mattress a consistent surface to work on. Slats become problematic by pinching the mattress pulling its fabric and the gaps can cause undulations over time.

You can also have drawers in a divan which can help with bedding storage etc.
