A customer asked

Hi there, This site is invaluable for people like me that are totally lost when it comes to buying a Mattress!

We've been looking at buying the Paul Simon Firm Luxury Latex 1000 pocket sprung mattress (on special offer at £599) having tried it in the shop and both found it to be the most comfortable given the the couple of minutes we tried it out for, as our old memory foam mattress has had its day. Is there similar on the market/do you have a similar model and do you know anything about the quality of these mattresses before we part with our cash?

If you can recommend any suitable alternatives too we'd be grateful, latex is not a necessity but just found that we liked it. Thanks Maddy "

Hi Maddy,

Thanks for your question.

Around that budget, I'd recommend having a look at our Origins Pocket 1500. This is a traditional pocket sprung mattress with synthetic fillings. This model is very much a true medium in the top layers (also referred to as the comfort layers) providing a slight sink in to the top layer but not too much.

Generally, anyone who's a side sleeper should avoid anything too firm in the top layers. This will simply cause pressure point pains in places such as shoulders, hips and knees. I've mentioned this due to the mattress name you're currently looking at.

Latex is generally a firm material that gives a progressive sink in sensation but bounces back to its original shape a lot quicker than foams for instance.

You might be better with a Medium feeling model such as the Origins Pocket 1500; If you find the mattress too firm at that stage look into adding a completely separate topper.
