Pocket sprung vs hybrid foam

Amy

I am short and weight 10.5 stone and have sacroiliac joint problems (hips/lower back) and am a side sleeper. My other half is tall and 12.5st and a side sleeper. we recently went from an old sprung mattress with a memory foam topper to hybrid foam (Leesa) . I had read hybrid foam mattress can be good to relieve pressure points and that this mattress had a medium feel, but we are both finding it firm and getting back/hip pain. Tried the topper on it and not much different. Would going back to a sprung mattress be better? If so which of your range is good for side sleepers?

Hi Amy,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The first thing to say is that with your particular body weights, a medium spring tension mattress would be most appropriate. The second consideration would be the way you sleep (side sleepers). Whilst your weights dictate the spring tension, the way you sleep will determine the appropriate upholstery and in you case, softer upholstery would be best. You would get the correct level of support from the medium spring and the correct level of comfort being provided by thew softer upholstery. It is possible that the Leesa mattress you have is not providing the correct level of comfort for your side sleeping, hence the pain now being experienced.

In your particular case, we would suggest that a return to a pocket sprung mattress is likely to provide you with the best results. There are two products in our ranges which may suit, the first being the Origins Comfort 1000, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with soft layers of man made upholstery suitable for side sleepers.

Your bodyweight This will feel
Under 10 Stone / 63kg Medium
10-12 Stone / 63-76kg Medium
12-14 Stone / 76-88kg Soft to Medium
14-16 Stone / 88-101kg Soft
16-18 Stone / 101-114kg Not suitable
18 Stone / 114kg Plus Not suitable

The second product we would suggest might suit would be the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit and has soft layers of natural upholstery. The Luxury is the softest 100% natural fibre mattress in our Artisan range. The closest model that we can compare to the Luxury is the Vi Spring Devonshire.
