Hi. Looking to get a new bed and mattress soon. Could you make a recommendation on the following info?
- Get a good night's sleep in Premier Inn, so something comparable.
- I'm over 20 stone, wife is considerably lighter!
- Looking for king size
Thanks.

Hi Nick,

Great to hear from you and your question about the Premier Inn Hypnos mattress.

The issues with the Premier Inn model is around its construction style and the fact it uses a pillowtop. The Hypnos Premier Inn mattress is a very soft feel bed with a medium gauge spring. This is because most a lot of hotels will opt for a far softer feel mattress for their rooms by using multiple toppers or pillowtops. This is because in the short term a soft sinking mattress can feel really plush and comfortable, especially on a weekend break or holiday.

However, in the long term, if you slept on one of these kinds of pillowtop soft mattresses in the long term you would quickly find you were in some discomfort. As they lack proper support.

The Premier Inn mattress would be far better if they removed the pillowtop and added a separate removable topper instead. This permanently attached topper means the mattress is only ever one-sided and when the topper settles (which they will) theres no way to turn them over and even out the settlement.

Comparison Mattress

At your bodyweight you're going to need a 1.9 firm gauge spring which is designed for your bodyweight. The Premier Inn mattress is a 1.4 which won't offer nearly enough support. In terms of what has a similar feel but without the drawback of the pillowtop mattress, have a look at our Origins Pocket 1500 mattress.

For your bodyweight you would need the 2000 spring count which is the firmer spring. I'd need to know the bodyweight of your partner. If she is under 16 stone then she would need the 1500 (1.4 gauge) spring. We can do this in a zip and link model for you which means you can both have the ideal tension for you.

The Origins Pocket 1500 will give you a medium feel in the mattress similar to the Premier Inn Hypnos model. It's two sided so you can turn and rotate the mattress which helps give it a far longer lifespan than other one sided mattresses. This also allows any natural settlement to even out over time which is impossible with a pillowtop mattress.

Origins Pocket 1500 Mattress Contents

1: 300GSM WOOL

2: 750GSM VERY SOFT POLYESTER

3: 500GSM POLYESTER PAD

4: ONE INCH FOAM INSULATOR LAYER

5: 1500 SPUN BOND POCKET SPRINGS

TOTAL: 1550GSM

DEPTH: 30-33CM

We hope that helps and if you need any more advice on mattresses please get back in touch.

All the best
John & Ryan
