Questions about bed slats

A customer asked

Hi, would really like your advice please. I have bought my son a pocket sprung mattress for his sprung slatted base. The slats are 3inches apart. I have put a blanket I between the mattress and base to protect it but am worried that the slat space may be too wide apart. I have found somewhere that provides extra sprung slats and wondered if I should buy some?

They would lessen the gaps to 1 inch or is it alright as it is?

Would it make the bed firmer?

many thanks for any advice you can give .

Hi Jackie.

I wouldn't worry too much.

The 3" gap you say that the base has, will be fine to use with any mattress apart from sold foam or solid latex mattresses, as these would mould between the slats, if your mattress was going to be of this type then you would need to board over the slatted area of your base.

If the mattress you have is a traditional sprung mattress with fibre fillings then we recommend just placing the blanket down over the slats as you have already done.

Adding more slats or covering the slats with boards will make the mattress feel firmer.

If you require any further assistance please call the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards Gary
