Replacing a dunlopillo mattress

A customer asked

Dear John and Ryan,
We are in the process of trying to find a good quality pocket spring comfortable replacement for our two dunlopillo mattresses which we have at present on a Hulsta sprung slatted base (super king size bed).
Is it better to have a sprung base for a pocket spring mattress or could we go for a slatted base?
Would be really interested to hear what you think.
Thanks!
Hazel

Hi Hazel,

Thank you for your question.

Any slatted base, sprung or otherwise, will make any mattress feel slightly firmer than it would on a sprung base. There are some mattresses, which are sold as being specifically for bed frames (slatted or solid), however, a good quality pocket sprung mattress will be fine on a slatted base, provided that a barrier is placed between the mattress and the slats to prevent ridging. With sprung slats the best form of barrier is (2-3mm) mdf sheeting, which as well as providing a uniform surface for the mattress to sit on, will prevent the mattress acquiring a ridge where the slats join in the centre.

If we can assist you with regard to any of our mattresses, we do have two ranges of pocket sprung mattresses, our Origins Range which have man made fillings and our Artisan Range which have natural fillings.   In order for us to recommend a mattress for you, we would need to know body weights for the spring tension and preferred feel from the upholstery layers or comfort layers.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

If we can assist you with any of our products, please telephone our office on 0161 437 4419 for further advice and recommendations.

Kind regards Julie
