Replacing memory foam mattress - please help

Hi there, My husband and I have been looking into buying a new mattress for a couple of years now. We have been postponing this for some time for fear of making a mistake again and because we've paid so much for 'the mistake' that we decided to stick with it for as long as we could bare!!

I have to say...we had enough!

You see, we bought a memory foam mattress in 2005 and soon enough we realized it was a big mistake. We paid almost £1000 for it and it was a dream in the beginning, but all of a sudden it became too soft too warm too soon!!

Then the pains started: back pain, neck pain, hip pain...absolute hell!!

After years of research I think the answer, for us (looking for support and comfort) is a combination of pocket springs and latex. I have to say that your excellent website info only confirmed and reassured me this is the right path!

Looking at the mattress you have to offer I think the "Origins Pocket Latex 1500" is the best option for us. So here are my questions: - Would this mattress be much less warm than my memory foam mattress (Sleepshaper, 2005, 4in memory foam + 4 in normal foam)?

- My husband is around 15 stones and I'm 12 stones. How would this mattress feel for both of us?

(My husband is not too fussed but I'm looking for a medium/soft feel because I sleep on my side and I don't have much 'padding' on my hips.) - We have a very low slatted bed (which I hate because it has a pointy edge where I keep knocking my shin on!) and I would like to get a new one. I like the idea of the matching base you offer with the mattress but I don't like when the base looks like the mattress. I like a plain, no details, dark fabric covered base. Do you offer anything like this?

Also, is there a picture of the base for this mattress?

(sorry, i couldn't find in your website) - I read somewhere else in your website that you'd be using a different type of latex (better one) soon?

Is this happening already?

I'm looking forward to your reply and hopefully purchasing one of your mattresses very soon!

Thank you very much!

Hi Simmy.

Your comments about the heat aspect of Memory Foam echoes the vast majority of complaints about this product.

The lifespan of Memory Foam is also called into question as there are equal amount of complaints that the feelings you are currently experiencing seems to be the norm.

We hate the stuff and draw upon the fact that absolute high end manufacturers such as Vi Spring / Savoir Beds etc.

would not dream of utilising this product in any of their mattresses, which should tell you all you need to know.

Your inclination towards the latex mattress is of course a better choice - absolutely no comparison to memory foam, however, I would be more inclined to steer you towards The Artisan Naturals.

This is traditionally built and despite the low pricing can be honed / tweaked to give you the perfect support and comfort and the same for your husband.

With the base, we can of course offer a limited choice of fabric options Cream / Coffee / Chocolate etc., We can discuss all these options at a later date but essentially the answer is Yes!

We are currently putting together a comprehensive section of base options but in the meantime dialogue over the phone or by email will give you all you require.

John and Ryan.
