Side-stitching enquiry

Hello,

Are all pocket sprung mattresses without hand side-stitching necessarily bad or lacking in some way?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Thank you for your question. Hand side stitching is a labour-intensive skill and denotes a high-end quality mattress. The hand side stitching attaches the side panel to the springs, which enhances edge support. You will find this mattress detailing on most natural fibre mattresses. In our Artisan natural fibre range, we also use two rows of firmer springs for edge support.

Machine-stitched panels, which are usually found in mid-range mattresses, mimic the side panels of a hand-stitched mattress, however, they are not attached to the springs and do not offer edge support. These mattresses must rely on other methods for edge support. In our Origins manmade fibre range, we use butterfly clips for edge support.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

When looking for a new mattress, you should consider your sleep positions and comfort preferences to determine how the comfort layers should feel. Your height and body weight will determine which spring tension will provide you with the correct level of support. You should also have a set budget in mind, you can get a comfortable night's sleep on a mattress that contains manmade fibres, as long as the overall feel of the mattress is right for you.

Whilst natural fibres provide a cooler sleep surface, help you to regulate your body temperature, and are more durable than manmade fibres, the overall comfort would be similar. Take, for instance, our two most popular models, the Origins Pocket 1500 and the Artisan Naturals. The Artisan Naturals is constructed with 85% natural fibres, has handmade calico pocket springs and two rows of hand side stitching. The Origins Pocket 1500 has predominantly manmade fibres in the upholstery layers, spun-bonded springs and machine-stitched side panels. However, both mattresses offer a true medium level of comfort, and it is difficult to distinguish between them simply by lying on them.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
