Professional opinion needed!
We are wanting to purchase a new mattress, have researched, tried out a variety and read through your extremely informative website. We are looking for a kingsize mattress & pocket sprung. We were initially going to settle on the Tempur HD deluxe but after giving some of the higher brand pockets sprung mattresses a try it was like sleeping on a cloud in comparison!
and we'd miss the 'bounce' i think!
Our budget is at the £1500 mark but would stretch up to £2000. We are 11 stone & 13 stone in weight & 5ft 9 & 6ft 1 in height. Sleep positions are mainly on the side and back. We are looking for a sumptuous 'sinking into a cloud' feeling mattress but obviously supportive!
We found the perfect mattress in the Vi-Spring 'Stowe' model which is made for John Lewis but at £4800 it's a little over budget!
(we just had to try it!). Our slatted bed frame is coming from the fabulous company Indigo Furniture & they sell a selection of mattresses which are a collaboration with the Smeaton Brothers of Yorkshire. As I'm not familiar with them (Smeaton Brothers) I wanted your opinion on the brand/what they offer...especially in the Ultimate Natural range, which option would suit us best based on our build (3000, 4000 or 5000) and value for money. Looking at their description, the price seems fair for what the mattress is....but I don't know!
Also any Vi-Spring model recommendations for our requirements but within budget?

Hi Natalie.
First of all The Smeatons are the owners of Healthbeds (much respected) and so I would be inclined to hunt out a retailer who have these mattresses to try out for suitability.
The price of a Natural Superior 3000 Mattress is in the region of £550 and in my mind does not represent anything that will compare to the upmarket models you have tried.
They are also invariably all one sided.
Be careful about the 'Sinking into a cloud' requirement.
Mattresses that offer this feeling from day one will have the upholstery in a loose state and therefore prone more readily to compact (settle) quickly .
It is better that the 'Sinking into a cloud' feeling is gained by use of soft toppers (such as wool) rather than the mattress itself.
Going by your weights and requirements I would suggest our Artisan Bespoke 004 as an alternative to many of the Vi Spring models you have tried. Another suitable suggestion would be the Artisan Bespoke 002 which is identical in fibres to the 004 but with a second tier of springs making this model feel slightly softer with added bounce.

It is fortunate that Vi Spring do detail the specifications by GSM and therefore easy comparisons by upholstery content can be made.
Vi Spring do have some starter models at around the £1500 mark such as The Wembury (John Lewis), The Baronet Superb, The Bedstead Realm etc.
However, bear in mind that these are starter models and therefore the branding becomes secondary to the composition.
It would be wrong to think that you will be getting £4800 Stowe comfort for £1500 or so.
