We have tried 3 different mattresses that are all too firm
Hi,
I am 9.5st side sleeper.
My partner 12.5st stomach sleeper
We have recently tried the Simba which was too hot and too firm, Hypnos premier inn bed which was too firm, lastly after paying for Which website advise, we went for a cheaper option as it was coming up trumps over the more expensive, the ikea HOVAG. In the shop it was reasonably soft and comfortable but the one we took home was again rock hard. We are having terrible luck and both suffering with lower back problems. Also neck and hip problems for myself. Please help us find a suitable mattress which feels comfortable so we can get some sleep.

Hi
Jane and Andrew
Thanks for your question,
The reason the Simba may have been a little too hot is due to the memory foam layer. This uses heat retention to enable the foam to soften and allow you to sink into the upper layer. For this reason, they tend to be much warmer than a traditional pocket sprung mattress.
The same methods are used in the ikea HÖVÅG. The reason this may have felt different is due to the number of times the show model may have been 'tested' and on the shop floor.
From the information, you have provided you would both need a medium spring tension to support your body weight.

As you suffer from back and hip problems you wouldn't want anything too firm in the upper layers, but as your partner is a front sleeper you do not want anything too firm in the upper layers. The best compromise would be to go for a medium support level. This would be either the Origins Pocket 1500 or the Artisan Naturals in medium spring tension.
This will be the best compromise for you as it will allow you to sink into the upper layer, but that sink isn't drastic enough to affect your partners comfort levels still being comfortable and supportive for a front sleeper too.
