Loren Williams ultimate 2400 pocket sprung matttress

Christine asked

Hi I’m at my wits end and hoping you will be able to help. We wanted a king size bed and bought a Loren Williams ultimate 2400 pocket sprung super soft non turn edge to edge support bed. Within 3 days I was back at the store because my joints were so painful. Every joint that touched the mattress hurt – shoulder hip knee ankle!

The store wasn’t interested said we had the opportunity to test it in the store and basically said tough!

We’ve bought a 3 inch memory foam topper to go on top which is still hurting my joints as well as making us ridiculously hot. We’ve tried a down and silk topper still no good – I’ve never had this problem before. Is there anything you can suggest?

My husband thinks the bed is fine and snores all night while I’m tossing and turning!

I just can’t stand it much longer!

I am 5’7 and weigh 9.1/2 stone. He is 5’8 and weighs 13 stone. I’m about to throw the mattress out and start again but can’t afford to get it wrong again. Help!!

Hi Christine,

It’s difficult to narrow this down specifically. Comfort is very personal and definitely very subjective; What one person finds firm another finds medium and another finds soft. The symptoms you describe are very indicative of pressure point pains found more often than not by side sleepers who are on a firm mattress.

Our advice to anyone who finds a mattress too firm after the adjustment period (any new mattress will feel firmer to start with and needs at least 4-6 weeks to settle minimum) is to add a mattress topper to introduce an extra comfort layer.

From what I can see about the Loren Williams mattress it is described as a soft feel; Whilst the reverse is more predominant it is also possible that a mattress that’s too soft can cause those pains. It might be worth attempting to solidify your current base (on the assumption that your current one is either sprung or slatted). This will give your mattress a firmer feel and if the reverse is in fact true then it might help to eliminate your current pains.

Outside of that I’d be hesitant to recommend any of our own products at this stage as the Artisan Luxury is our softest mattress in the top layers and should give a similar feel to that Loren Williams product. As such, I’d be inclined to ask you to test boarding your base to begin with. Give this a try and come back to us with your findings and we can hopefully assist further from there.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. Our office opening times are Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Kind Regards, Lee.
