Which mattress to replace Premier Inn Silent Night mattress

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 6 comments

Hi

We had an Emma foam mattress which completely sagged where we slept, so we bought a new Premier Inn silent night mattress. However my wife finds it too firm and it's hurting her hips and shoulders. We have arranged to return the matress.

What mattress would you recommend? We are both side sleepers, I weigh around 13 stone and my wife is 9 st. I suffer from lower back pain on the Emma mattress and my wife had shoulder pain.

Thanks

Hi Darren,

Thank you for your question. All mattresses will settle where you lie the most, even memory foam and latex. With a fibre-filled mattress, this is more noticeable as the comfort layers start to settle from the first night of use. The upholstery fibres are compacted during manufacturing, which means a new mattress will always feel slightly firmer until these upholstery fibres start to settle. It takes you sleeping and moving around on the mattress to soften and flatten them. As we are creatures of habit, we tend to sleep in the same position on the mattress. This means the upholstery fibres settle in this area but leave the surrounding upholstery fibres like new. By utilising the whole of the sleep surface and regularly turning the mattress over, these fibres can settle more evenly.

Both the Emma mattress and the Premier Inn Silentnight mattresses have a firmer medium overall level of comfort. As these mattresses require pressure to be able to mould to you, the lighter your body weight, the firmer it will feel and vice versa.  Adding a soft density natural latex mattress topper to the Premier Inn Silentnight mattress may provide you both with additional cushioning. An added benefit of natural latex is that it is more breathable, providing a cooler sleep surface.

If the comfort is too firm, especially for side sleepers, this can cause pressure pains in your shoulders and hips or you can pivot on these areas, which puts pressure on your lower spine. We would recommend either soft or medium upholstery layers, depending on your comfort preferences. Our softest upholstery mattress is the Artisan Luxury, which has a softer medium level of comfort in the 100% natural fibre upholstery layers and handmade calico pocket springs, making this one of our most breathable mattresses. If you prefer a more supportive feel but still with cushioning in the top layers for your shoulders and hips, our two most popular medium upholstery mattresses are the Origins Pocket 1500 and the Artisan Naturals.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Spring tension is based on your height and body weight to provide you with the correct level of support. We would pair you both with the medium spring tension, which will allow your bodies to find their own levels and not be forced into an unnatural position.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Hi

Our budget is around £700 to £800. Which one would you suggest in that range?

The more I read about a mattress in a box, the more I read that they sag faster than a traditional mattress.

We want something that’s feels soft and your hips and shoulder sink into, but is also supportive.

Thanks

Hi Darren,

Thank you for your comment. For a softer but supportive mattress around your budget, you could consider the Origins Comfort 1000 mattress. This manmade fibre mattress is slightly softer in the comfort layers than a true medium upholstery. The medium spring tension that is standard within this mattress will provide you both with the correct level of support. The double size retails at £810 and the kingsize retails at £875 (Aug 25).

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Hi

Thanks for all your help.

Is it worth paying a bit more for the Origins 1500, or would this mattress feel a lot firmer?

What’s the difference with the man made polyester filling the Origins has compared to the hybrid mattress in a box like simba and Emma? Do the polyester ones sag less?

Thanks

Hi Darren,

Thank you for your comment. The Origins Pocket 1500 is only slightly firmer in the upholstery layers than the Origins Comfort 1000. Which mattress you choose will depend on how you prefer a mattress to feel. The Origins Pocket 1500 will feel more supportive than the Origins Comfort 1000 while the Origins Comfort 1000 will have a little more cushioning.

Fibre-filled mattresses, like our Artisan and Origins ranges of mattresses, provide a cushioning feel, whilst foam-type mattresses, whether solid foam or hybrid, have a moulding sensation which requires pressure to be able to mould to you. These will definitely feel much firmer for your wife at her light body weight.

All mattresses will show body impressions where you sleep the most. This is not a fault with the mattress, but signs that the upholstery layers are doing what they are supposed to. Foam mattresses take longer to show these impressions but they still form in foam. Utilising the whole sleep surface, sitting or sleeping in the middle will avoid these signs of use.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Thank you.

What is the usual delivery time and how does the 60 night free trial work, is there a delivery fee to return the mattress?

Hi Darren,

Thank you for your comment. Delivery is usually within 4 weeks from when we receive your order.

All customers of a standard size mattress are covered under our 60 day love it or return it guarantee. We do ask that you use a mattress protector and give the mattress a good month or so as it can take 4 to 6 weeks for your body to adjust to the new mattress. If after this time you are not getting along with the mattress you can either send it back for a full refund or we can do a one time exchange to another mattress depending on how you found the first one. You would then get a 60 day love it or return it guarantee with the second mattress which you can return for a full refund if you do not find it comfortable. We cover all courier costs for returns and exchanges.

I hope this helps and if I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
