Which mattress(es) to buy for super king?

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 0 comments

My wife and I are about to buy a super king bed, upgrading from a king size. We were intending to buy zip and link mattresses, but haven't found many options from brands we've heard are good, and perhaps the increase in size will be enough anyway, if the mattress is sufficiently stable. We're both side sleepers. I weigh 103 kg and tend to sleep basically in the recovery position, often with a pillow under my upper/bent leg, which is fine, but I wonder if it'd be necessary with the right mattress. She's 70 kg. Any suggestions? I've slept well on premier inn mattresses but that's about all I know!

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your question. A super kingsize mattress is much larger and heavier than a kingsize mattress. We would need to ensure that this size mattress would fit within your property. If you are unsure, you can send an access video to [email protected] of the route the mattress would need to take from entering your property to your room of choice, showing overhangs and bannisters from multiple angles.

A zip and link mattress is ideal if you have limited access to your room of choice, as they are also much easier to turn over and they eliminate motion disturbance. All of our mattresses are available in a zip and link option in kingsize and above.

At your body weight, you are just under where we would change from a medium spring tension to a firm spring tension, which means your height should be taken into consideration when determining which spring tension would provide you with the correct level of support. Your wife requires a medium spring tension.

Artisan bespoke 004 mattress

The comfort layers of a mattress determine how a mattress feels, and you should consider both your sleep positions and comfort preferences when looking for a new mattress. The Premier Inn Hypnos mattress is a medium feel pillowtop mattress. We do not recommend pillowtop mattresses, as you can not prolong the lifespan of the mattress by regularly turning the mattress over so that the underside becomes the sleep surface. When you can only rotate a one sided mattress, your hips tend to be in the same position, which means this area doesn't get time to rest and regain loft, leading to uneven settlement of the upholstery layers. You can replicate the feel of this with a medium two sided mattress and a separate mattress topper. Both parts are fully turnable and you can replace the mattress topper when it reaches the end of its life. Given you find this mattress comfortable, I would recommend looking at our medium comfort mattresses such as the Artisan Bespoke 004, Artisan Naturals and Origins Pocket 1500.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
