First Layer: 300 gsm Wool. This component is blended with (nominal amount) silk to give the primary layer beneath the fabric a gloriously soft cushion.
Second Layer: 750GSM very soft Polyester. This, coupled with the layers below, brings the level of upholstery quite high. However, when compressed through tufting, these layers have medium comfort but also sufficient support from the springs.
Third Layer: 500GSM Polyester. This is the cushioning layer that acts as the dampener between the insulator layer below and the soft polyester that will follow.
Fourth Layer: One-inch foam insulator. We use a one-inch layer of HD foam directly on top of the spring unit. This cushioning foam not only protects you from the spring unit but also works with you, enabling the pocket springs to rise and fall as you move.
The stretch knit mattress side panels are machine stitched. Traditionally hand-tufted. Even though the mattress side panels are 9″ deep, the undulations caused by the abundant upholstery brings the mattress depth to a more realistic 13″.

The Origins Pocket 1500 is a substantial well built and well filled and ultimately a well-priced mattress. There really isn’t much out there that can be deemed a good comparison for this price.
The side panels may be machine side stitched but the price absolutely justifies this. Although, classed as a 9″ mattress (the depth of the side panels) the number of fillings contained make the surfaces protrude so when hand-tufted creates a sumptuously deep mattress bringing the overall depth to a more realistic 13″.
All in all, this is a thoughtfully conceived mattress. Every component used works together to create an outstanding mattress for the money. Bear in mind when doing comparisons, that this is a full double-sided mattress – not one-sided.

Our team will be able to guide you to the right product for you and your budget. We grade the products in our warehouse and the grading is decided based on the condition of the product upon return. All mattresses are Grade B or C. At this stage we cannot give you the history of each product or the very specifics of where any marks may be located so if this is important for you to know then a clearance bed may not be for you and you can choose your mattress in the normal way. We do however guarantee that the condition will be no worse than described below and in most cases is actually better!

Cannot recommend enough. I spent a fair amount of money on a Simba mattress around 3 years previous only to find I was waking up with painful twinges in my back because the support from it had already failed. After looking into it I found out about how memory foam is notorious for failing, so decided to try a John Ryan mattress after a recommendation from a friend. I was impressed from the very start, having had a phone call before the order was confirmed to ensure that I had chosen the right mattress. This was not to try and upsell a more expensive one, it was purely to make sure I had made the right choice. The mattress then arrived sooner than expected, delivered by a very helpful pair of chaps who knew the products and made helpful suggestions. Then on inspecting the mattress I was hugely impressed. For not much more money than any of the generic memory foam or hybrid mattresses you get an absolutely beautifully made one which is comfortable yet supportive. It has a much more expensive feel that the price suggests and my wife and I cannot fault it. You also can tell by the quality feel that it will last for much longer than any of the cheaper ones, making it incredible value. I truly love this mattress and have been more than imprint the customer service. It is also a good feeling to know that you are buying something made in the UK.

So happy with our John Ryan mattress. They really take the time to understand your needs/ profile and recommend on that basis. We went for the Origins latex 2000 and it is a dream to sleep on, supports our (heavier) weights perfectly while still feeling soft. Origins Pocket 1500 mattress I bought the mattress after the Premier Inn Hypnos mattress was discontinued and I find it very comfortable. It feels firm but with a cushioning layer on top which is just what I was after. It’s also lighter than I was expecting which means I can fairly easily turn it on my own. Communication with the company was good and delivery and removal of my old mattress was efficient. Very happy customer and I have recommended the company to others.

Origins Pocket 1500 & base Just bought an Origins Pocket 1500 Mattress – King Size with cream chenille base with 2 and 2 1/2 drawers. Firstly I have got to say, this is one of the most customer orientated companies I have EVER come across, they are just so on the ball when it comes to looking after their customers. On ordering, they don’t push products on you, they genuinely care about you getting the right product to suit your sleep needs and I received a phone call from them to go over our weights, sleep patterns etc to make sure we had made the right choice. The delivery guys were so lovely and even attached my own metal headboard to the bed which they really didn’t have to do. I had a slight problem with the base but it was dealt with immediately by business mgr Gary Moss and resolved by him and Director Ryan without hesitation with completely satisfactory results. You just know you are dealing with such professionals here. The bed is a bit higher than we are used to, I feel like Princess and the Pea! When I was buying, I said I wanted a similar mattress to a Hypnos previously used by Premier Inn. Michaela advised that that particular mattress was a pillow top one and, to emulate it completely, she recommended I buy a topper from another company but that I was probably best to try out the bed for a few weeks first. We have slept on it for a couple of nights and it is a bit firmer than our last (ancient) bed but is very comfortable and I don’t think we will need a topper. I just love their honesty and top class customer service – so many companies could learn a thing or two from them! One happy happy customer here!

Great Mattress I was searching online for a new mattresses, and came across John Ryan by Design, I liked that they took interest in getting the right mattress for you, and they are made to order. So rather than go into lots of shops to try mattresses out, (never really been sure how you can tell if a mattress is ok by trying it out for a few minutes) we decided to order our next mattress from them. I took their mattress quiz to confirm which one would suit us and placed our order. A while later we received a phone call from them asking us a few questions to confirm that we had ordered the correct mattress to suit us. It arrived within 3 weeks and the two men delivering it put the mattress on the bed and took our old one away to be recycled (this was an extra cost, but you will find everyone charges for this). Our mattress is turntable, which we wanted and we are extremely pleased with it, sleeping better and have found it very comfortable. I would thoroughly recommend John Ryan by Design, and will certainly order from them again when other mattresses in the house need replacing.

Oh so comfortable I was a bit worried about buying mattresses online but need not have been. After ordering I got a phone call from customer service to go through our weights etc as I was ordering king size linked beds. So felt a lot happier. They arrived on the date I expected. I would advice opening them a few days before you want them on the bed as the fire retardant smell is quite strong. It should not be underestimated what a quality mattress can do for you. Looking at the different types of mattresses on offer was confusing, the price ranged from affordable to eye watering and the thought of buying online without being able to ‘test’ it was daunting. I then found John Ryan by Design and called them. A discussion about our sleeping habits, health needs and requirements led to a recommendation of the Origins Pocket 1500 Mattress King Size, Medium (1500 spring). Wow they got out our needs spot on. It was one of their cheaper mattresses, but the quality and comfort is outstanding. John Ryan recommends trying the mattress for a month before considering returning it. After just one night we made the decision, it was staying. It is extremely comfortable, feels luxurious and expensive and looks like it will last for a very long time.

I prefer a medium support mattress, and my husband prefers firmer support. So it’s always tricky to find something that works for both of us.
I dont like memory foam, too hot, wanted something breathable.
After much deliberation we ordered the Origins zip link king size, 1500 one side and 2000 the other. It’s perfect. Its not too soft for me or too hard for him. At last, we are both happy.

I placed the order and within 30 minutes I was called by a lovely woman, she asked me a few questions to make sure the mattress I had chosen was the right one for me.
I was then sent out all the information to care for my mattress once it arrived.
Once the mattress had been made I was phoned by the delivery company to arrange a delivery date. Everything arrived on time as expected with zero hiccups or hassle.
The mattress itself was a welcome upgrade, different level of comfort. Hands down the best mattress I’ve slept on and if were to ever recommend somewhere to get a mattress it would be John Ryan.

Great product. Wish I had found them earlier – spent much time and money on inferior beds. Other firms seem to spend all their money on advertising and not on the actual product – the previous one I got was the Which best buy, thinking I could trust them, but oh no. Gawd knows how they rig the ratings, but they must do. My son recommended these to me – seems the only thing you can trust nowadays.
The bed I have is the basic one – medium. It conforms well to my body shape (podgy, with wide shoulders). No more pain in the mornings (I have disc problems) and I sleep well.

What a fantastic company. The whole process from order to delivery was seamless and I was kept up to date at all points. John Ryan even gave expert advice on what bed would be best suited to me and boy were they right. I have never had such a good nights sleep in my life and my only regret is not discovering this company sooner.
The price was very reasonable especially considering the quality of the bed. For the same money I could have bought from mainstream vendors but their beds were not a patch on the bed I got.

I ordered the Origins Pocket 1500 in a medium tension. It is a very comfortable, supportive mattress, it looks and feels quality. What make this company an easy recommendation is the customer support. One number to ring, someone picks up the phone (sometimes immediately) and will just any question.
I usually just research things online and buy them, but I went through our needs with one of the advisors, they were quick, professional, and most importantly, didn’t try to upsell anything (I keep a keen eye on these things). I asked them a couple of questions expecting the answer to be: buy this or upgrade to that, but to my delight, they gave me reasonable advice (that didn’t involve paying extra).
If these mattresses (we bought 2) held up nicely and were comfortable long term (I’m very optimistic), then they’ll have a customer for life. Hopefully I’ll be able to afford their higher trim offerings in the future.

Ordered the Origins Pocket 1500 King Size Zip and LInk. After Researching to Death Numerous Mattresses, I stumbled upon this company, and the Reviews speak Volumes so I went ahead and bought one. It was delivered yesterday by two lovely men who took there shoes of ( I never even asked) and took it upstairs and put it on the bed. I have quite a high bed base so with the mattress on top, it was a close call to whether or not I’d need a step ladder to get onto it at bedtime, ( it’s very deep). Me and the other half slept soundly, no aches or pains, and trust me compared to the brick of a mattress I have been sleeping on for years this was wonderful. John Ryan were great – we ordered a King Size mattress (Origin 1500) and when it came the delivery guys couldn’t get it up the stairs (the mattress was much thicker than our old one). John Ryan were happy to take it back and replace it with a Zip and Link which came in two parts and therefore did fit up the stairs!

The mattress is comfortable just quite wide in depth. So have to jump onto bed as so high, and needed to replace all our sheets as old mattress only 8 inches thick and the new mattress is 10 inches. I purchased an Artisan Naturals mattress 7 years ago and honestly it’s the most comfy mattress I’ve ever slept on, my bad back literally disappeared overnight.
Recently I’ve wanted to upgrade our spare room mattress and after talking to John Ryan plumped for an Origins Pocket 1500.
It arrived yesterday and of course I had to test drive it last night! It’s a great mattress and well worth the cost.
I wouldn’t buy from any other mattress supplier and am now looking at a new base, from John Ryan of course.

Having both suffered from a popular mattress in a box we decided to get a “grown up” bed. It’s the most we’ve ever spent on a mattress but after weeks of research, all signs pointed to John Ryan.
From initial contact and advice through to delivery, the process was helpful and seamless. All of that aside, though, the pocket 1500 is an amazing bed and we’re sleeping better than we have done in years. It’s so comfortable in all sleep positions (medium firmness ideal for combination sleepers) and if I get up to use the loo in the middle of the night I always have a grin on my face getting back in.

Finally after much research the perfect mattress….
After a good deal of research I ordered a pair of zip and link mattresses (King size) of different firmnesses to allow for the considerable weight differences between my husband and myself. The company were very responsive and took the time to listen to my queries and explain over the phone how the zip function works (it isn’t very obvious from the description and photos would help!) The ordering process was straightforward and delivery on schedule. We were phoned early in the morning when they were 15 minutes away to make sure we were ready. Having two mattresses made the delivery up the narrow stairs much easier. I arranged for the old mattress to be taken away and recycled and this was all done very efficiently and politely. The mattresses are lovely, very well made, luxurious and comfortable and we are both sleeping very well on them.

I had some trepidation at buying a mattress online but was given excellent advice on the phone and threw caution to the wind. So glad I did. What a fabulous mattress. Our Sealy mattress had failed after just couple of years so we started looking for alternatives. We tried an Otty but this was too firm and too warm so we returned it. We spent many hours online shortlisting models but each time found very variable reviews for the models on our shortlist. Any mattress is a significant expenditure but it all seemed such a lottery. We then chanced upon John Ryan by Design. Almost all reviews were 5 star. We spent a happy few hours reading loads of the articles on the website. It was so refreshing and reassuring to have things explained clearly and openly. We ordered the Origins Pocket 1500. Since we were in lock-down things did not progress as quickly as normal but this was not unexpected under the circumstances. We received a phone call after a few weeks to check we had ordered the correct mattress for us and to inform us that our mattress was about to enter production. Four weeks later our mattress was delivered by Keen & Able. All very straightforward. The mattress is far more substantial than anything we’ve ever experienced before. It was comfortable right from the first night. We’ve not yet got to three weeks so can’t comment on longevity but so far so good. We won’t be going back to the high street for mattresses. I came across JR by design several years ago – wish I had ordered then! I had no trouble with delivery, the mattress was delivered in just over a week after a courtesy call to ensure I had made the correct choice spec for my husband and I, so the experience was pleasant and very professional.
On to the mattress……we ordered the pocket origins 1500, one of their popular mattresses, I believe. After the mattress was delivered, I thought ‘wow’ , the depth worried me slightly as I’m on the smaller side and thought I’d need ‘step up’ to get on that! (Jokes aside!) It was deep and plush with the luxury cashmere top and wool filling – we couldn’t wait to go bed! First night felt awkward, as to be expected, this was a new mattress…. over the week, I tried various combinations of bedding, toppers ect and thought this may have been a mistake, but the 60 trial gave piece of mind to carry on. Almost 4 weeks later, 2 x mattress protectors (as I could feel the button tufts) this is the best, most comfiest mattress I’ve ever slept on! We’re due to turn at the month end and the top layer has settled with the centre slightly raised between my husband and I, but this is to be expected, I don’t sleep on his back! We have ‘our sides’ and this does not hinder sleeping as though I have to roll ‘up hill’ so to speak. I’m confident with frequent turning this will settle. Besides, I’m (we) are so happy with our purchase which has definitely impacted on our sleep quality without doubt! Our old mattress, which served us very well, was past it’s best so we embarked on one of those “must get right” purchases. Did some searches on the internet for best buy recommendations and then spent a day visiting retail outlets. We had decided in advance that we wanted a pocket sprung mattress which could be turned over. We have had our John Ryan Artisan Luxury mattress in soft tension for just over seven years and it is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. However the past couple of years I have started to suffer with an aching hip when lying on one side and after returning from a trip and sleeping on a firmer mattress with no hip pain I have realised that the soft is probably too soft and therefore I am going to order a new mattress in medium tension.
We also ordered Origin mattresses for our holiday home this year and they are very comfortable although of course not as luxurious as the Artisan range.
Despite trying out other mattresses in stores and pouring over online reviews for other companies we decided to return to John Ryan as the quality and comfort plus customer service is tried and tested.

Slept on a John Ryan mattress in a Hotel whilst we were on holiday – my wife and I couldn’t believe how comfortable it was.to sleep on.
Once home we contacted the Hotel and they were kind enough to supply us with all the details so that we could place an order immediately. Ordering was extremely easy. Delivery time was quoted – which was within 3 weeks.
We received email confirmation a few days before delivery The Transport team text me with an approximate 2 hour time slot -in fact they were 2 hours early. Transport team were quick, efficient and polite – taking the mattress up to the bedroom and unpacking it and placing it on our divan base.

Ordered online following good reviews on mattress info sites. Was called and emailed to speak with an advisor to check the choice matched our height, weight and sleep position. Felt the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and showed genuine care.
Have waited a few weeks to review so can comment fully on comfort. At first I worried mattress was a bit hard for a medium, but it has settled well and we follow the turning instructions. Now feel very comfortable and well supported.
Would definitely echo the reviews I read and say it’s a very comfortable mattress and good value compared to other high end hand made brands.

My husband wanted a bed like they have in Premier Inn, so I was googling and stumbled over the John Ryan website. Ordering a bed online was a little daunting for me, but having read through all the information on website, I felt informed enough to take the plunge, plus the 30 day trial eased both our minds.
We have a king size zip and link Origins 1500 but actually opted for the firm version, plus a divan base. This bed feels like the a dream, better than any hotel bed I ever slept on! No more taking painkillers for breakfast because I hurt so much from lying in bed. Now I need to find the perfect pillows and I will never want to leave my bed again!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I’ve been sleeping on this mattress for 2 weeks and finally after years of suffering, my back pain is completely gone. In the morning I feel refreshed and bounce out of bed feeling 10 years younger. Also I have to admit that sleeping-in on the weekends with my girlfriend in this sumptuous bed is a sheer delight. We brought a king size and zip and link for our holiday home in Cornwall. The service we received from John Ryan was great from ordering to delivery and we had to change the delivery date a few times no problem. The house wasn’t the easiest to deliver to or two flights of stairs but it was still no problem. These beds have to be the most comfortable beds iv slept on and they look and feel really luxurious. Our qests say so too. Such good value for money we’re now looking to buy one for home. Thank you.

I had spent a year researching what mattress to get i didn’t have a lot of money to spend and nearly purchased from ebay (£1000 super pocket sprung reduced to £200!!) Then found this company and was astouinted by the knowledge and honesty. I decided it was better to splash out on something that was going to last (buy cheap buy twice!) and am delighted that I did – it is so comfortable!!! the customer service was brilliant and teh delivery company too – they carried it upstairs and even took the packaging away with them! Came across John Ryan beds by chance on the web when I was serching for a double bed for my son. All the bed shops/sites were made so confusing with different deals for this and that, strange pricing structures etc, it was a revelation to find JR beds, simple no nonsense structure and pricing. All customer contacts were very polite, helpful and knowlegeable, including the delivery guys. One further comment is that the bed came double wrapped in a really strong plastic which gave the final consumer, me, the confidence that everything inside was going to be of a very good quality. Don’t bother serching anywhere else for a bed just give these guys & gals a shout.

Our only regret was not choosing John Ryan in the first place !! It was only a double disaster with another company (now looked on as a blessing in disguise), that we came across the John Ryan site and didn’t look back.
As we digested the easy to follow and endless info about mattresses, we soon realised how naive we and most people are when it comes to choosing a mattress. Armed with our newly acquired knowledge (and yes we couldn’t help showing it off to anyone who would listen), we narrowed our choice to two. We then spoke to JR to discuss and help make a final decision and the rest is history.
We have been sleeping on our Origins Pocket 1500 double for 6 weeks now and can honestly say it is worth every penny.You can immediately see the quality and from the first night feel and benefit from it’s comfort. We have completely differing weights yet there is no disturbance to the other when turning over.
For us JR proved to be an excellent company which provides you with all you need to know on it’s website, backed by friendly knowledgeable staff and a very good reliable delivery service.
We have no hesitation in recommending JR and if anyone dares to mention mattresses we do !!

Helpful advice, great service, and a super comfy mattress
Very friendly and helpful advice about what mattress to choose (we went for the Origins 1500) which has resulted in us now enjoying the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever had at home, and compares to the best hotel beds I’ve ever slept in. Had the mattress for a week now and it felt perfect from the first nights sleep. Delivery time was also quicker than originally anticipated and the guys brought the mattress upstairs, unwrapped it, placed it on the bed and took all packaging away. All in all a fantastic service.

My partner and I have had our John Ryan mattress for just over a year now and think it is excellent.
We chose John Ryan because of their online guides for choosing/purchasing the right mattress – all of which seem very honest and focussed on selling you the right product, rather than trying to push their own products. After reading their online material I ordered a mattress through their website and within 24 hours someone from their customer services team rang me up for a quick chat about who was sleeping on the mattress/our needs to check we had chosen correctly – we thought this was a really nice touch and made us feel confident that we had made the correct choice.
Delivery service was excellent – we were able to choose a day for delivery which suited me.
When we received the mattress (Origins Pocket 1500) it was a little firmer than we had anticipated, and did take a week to get completely used to it. However a year on, both my partner and myself agree it is the most comfortable mattress we’ve slept on.
The mattress upholstery layers do soften a little over time – as they say on their website, it does need turning regularly as I can image that it would soften unevenly if not. After a year the mattress shows no sign of losing any support, so I expect it to stay with us for several more years at least.

As trustworthy as your favourite Uncle (Origins Pocket 1500)
Needed a new mattress, looked in a few major bed retailers, wasn’t impressed by what I was seeing and by the knowledge of the shop assistants. My mother recommended John Ryan so I decided to give them a call. The guy on the phone was very knowledgeable and was able to recommend me a mattress after I told him my height, sleeping preference etc.

I had initially looked at buying a mattress from premier inn site, when I found a blog post of the John Ryan website. And I’m so glad I did, the mattress is amazing! It’s absolutely huge, I feel like I’m in princes and the pea! I bought Origins Pocket 1500 – King Size, Medium (1500 spring) for £620 and it feels like the epitome of luxury. I can’t believe the quality especially considering the cost! Very happy customer! 🙂
