TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Do all mattresses need to be turned?

Hugh asked

Thank you for all the helpful information. I think I read on your site that the better mattresses need to be turned. So what do you think of Feather & Black as a manufacturer? They have a Bronte mattress with a 3,000 spring count but they do not mention the gsm on their webpage. The mattress is ‘not for turning’ (excuse the pun).
Would you consider a mattress of this type, with only 2 rows of side stitching, to constitute good value priced at £250? I am wondering if I could find anything better than this for under £500.
I was originally going to buy a mattress for £150 but now that I have read your website and learned a little, I now realize it is worth paying much more. I am hoping you will let me know whether or not you consider this manufacturer to be decent, thanks.

Hi Hugh,

Thank you for your question.

I am aware of Feather & Black, however, I do not have any knowledge of their manufacturing processes or the quality of the materials used, so am unable to provide you with an opinion in that regard. For the same reasons I am unable to advise whether this would constitute value for money, although I would say that the price quoted is cheap, particularly for a mattress with natural upholstery layers, but this may prove a shrewd buy in the end.

I note that you have not disclosed the size of mattress, your body weights or preferred feel, which make recommendation of any other products impossible. What you need to bear in mind is that something advertised as a bargain, invariably turns out not to be. The old maxim “you get what you pay for” is applicable. One sided mattresses have one specific floor and that is the sleep surface, even with rotation, will deteriorate quicker than a two sided mattress, which may make such a purchase a false economy.

If however we can assist you with regard to any of our products, please do not hesitate to telephone our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
