Thanks for getting in touch about the Dreams Revived Cove mattress and it's suitability. You're right to be concerned over a 1-year warranty on a mattress. Especially on a mattress that's over £1000 in price! We're a bit baffled by Dreams decision to only give a years guarantee on some of their newer models?

We're glad as a new mattress buyer that you're doing your research first on choosing a new mattress. It will benefit you greatly and save you making a costly mistake. Before we get into discussing the details of the Dreams mattress its worthwhile explaining pocket spring tensions to make sue you don't get tricked into a firmer spring than you need.

Pocket Spring Tensions Explained:

All pocket springs are made with weight ranges in mind. So each tension or gauge pf spring relates to a weight tolerance and range. These have been termed soft, medium or firm and mattress retailers for years have mistakenly used this to describe the overall feel of the mattress. This is completely wrong. The overall feel of the mattress is given primarily by the upholstery and comfort layers.

Dreams Revived Cove Mattress Review:

One of the biggest selling points of the Dreams Revived Cove mattress is its sustainability and reuse of plastic bottles in its fibre layers. Which we give them top marks for!

However, recycled fibres are not a new feature in mattress upholstery layers. In fact, recycled polyester has been around now for a while. It still means that in one way or another your sleeping on an entirely synthetic mattress will lack the breathability of a natural fibre (completely recyclable fibre) mattress. Further to this recycled upholstery fibres has been used in cage sprung and entry level mattresses for decades so we would air on the side of caution with any recycled claims digging deeper into the how and end benefit for you the consumer. Textiles have often been recycled in cheaper mattresses known as 'grey fibre' which uses shredded clothing, cardigans and upholstery to create these firmer grey upholstery pads.

If this mattress was around £500 for a king-size we would have no complaints. However, you're being charged top dollar for a 100% synthetic plastic-based mattress.

Now, let's take a look of the details (or lack thereof!):

The problem with the mattress listing on dreams website is it gives you absolutely no discernable information about the spring type/gauge, gsm of the upholstery layers or breakdown of how it is constructed. Meaning you're just left guessing. Like we said above this is a 100% synthetic polyester-based mattress. The SEAQUAL® YARN again is polyester made from recycled plastic.

We have no issue with the amazing work going on to clear our Oceans of plastics, but we do question why you're being charged so much -more than a natural completely biodegradable fibre - for such ethical fibres. If all the entry-level mattresses moved to this fibre it certainly would be a huge leap forward and we would encourage the big mass producers to consider this instead of making polyester from fresh plastics.

The springs are the next concern in this mattress. Given that in a standard full-size pocket spring you can fit up to 2000 springs in a single layer anything above this then indicates that there are multiple spring layers, usually using micro springs which we refuse to design beds with. The reason being they compress almost instantly and offer practically zero support for a mattress. The only reason we can think of that manufacturers keep using them is to use the ever increasing/inflated spring counts to compete with each other in the mattress market place. There's no gauge or tension given and we assume from the description that these are spunbond (more polyester covered springs).

This is also a very firm mattress, so unless you like incredibly solid comfort layers we would again use caution. Especially if you're a side sleeper who needs more forgiving comfort layers to properly support you during the night.

As you've pointed out the fact it's one-sided, means you can only ever use one side and won't be able to even out mattress settlement.

Finally, before we move on to the Warren Evans mattress, here's a handy table to show you what you should expect for your bed buying budget.

Warren Evans Organic 6000 Mattress Review:
The Warren Evans mattress is a different beast altogether. It's a natural fibre mattress which displays the exact GSM which is great news. Though not the spring specifics which is slightly frustrating. Again it is a firmer feel mattress due to the 4000 micro springs that feature near the top of the mattress.

Wool usually is a very soft feel fibre but with all the springs contained within this mattress it will firm up the feel considerable. Let's take a closer look.

1. Natural 100% Egyptian cotton cover, no nasty FR chemicals
2. 2000 GSM 100% certified organic wool sleep layers
3. 4000 micro pocket springs for added comfort and breathability
4. 1100 GSM 100% natural needled wool base layer on top of 750 GSM H/S

7. Double sided and hand tufted for durability and lasting comfort, with 3 rows of hand side stitching for shape retention and support

The chemical free cover is really interesting and nice to see. We use a Plant Based FR (Fire retardant) application to our Viscose cover. It would be interesting to see what application Warren Evans are using on their cotton to make it fully fire proof n line with the UK's rightly stringent regulations.

It's worth noting the HS on the upholstery description. We had no idea what this was so got in touch with their team. We've never seen this used as an abbreviation in mattress making. One of their team tentatively thought it stood for high standard but we're not too sure.

Whilst they use a top of the line spring unit, from the description its unlikely that its a calico encased vanadium coated spring unit. If it was they would be shouting this from the roof tops! These are the very best spring unit you can buy and are completely breathable offering far greater progressive spring movement and isolation. They may be calico though we doubt it at the sub £1000 price point as the components are simply not available under this price point. Handles and vents are pretty standard on this type of traditional mattress construction.

It's great that its two-sided meaning you can turn and flip this mattress to even out settlement. This mattress will last far longer than a one sided model. The fact its got natural fibres inside means it will be cooler and more robust than a synthetic mattress.

Comparison Mattresses:
