How to stop roll together on a mattress

Katie asked
26th September 2015

Hi, we currently have a king size Harrison pocket sprung 4000 springs mattress, only a few years old and seems v gd quality but even so we find we roll together and i always wake up with a bad back. i am 5’5″ and nearly 11 stone, my husband is 5’11” and 12.5 stone. We tried some mattresses in a shop today and liked the Hypnos emerald, and a Kensington natural choice 1500. But i am worried about it because we liked the last one when we tried it in the shop for 10 mins! someone has also recommended Vi-sprung. Our budget is up to about £900. We have a divan. Looking for inspiration and came accross your website, which seems very helpful. Any comments gratefully received. We live in Halifax so not too far from you.

Hi Katie,

The published information regarding the upholstery etc in the Harrison, Hypnos and Kensington is extremely vague, which makes any form of comparison or recommendation impossible. I would suggest that with your body weights that you opt for a medium spring tension.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)

Vi-Spring, until recently, published a complete breakdown of the component parts of their mattresses including the level of GSM (grams per square metre) of upholstery, which assisted greatly in providing advice as to possible comfort and recommending comparables.

I gather from the mattresses that you have looked at that you would prefer one with natural upholstery layers as opposed to synthetic and would therefore suggest that you view the products in our Artisan range and in particular the Artisan Naturals. Whilst this is slightly over budget at £1235.00 for a king size, there is a full description of the upholstery and springs used and represent excellent value for money when compared with the cost of a Vi-Spring mattress please see the link attached. – https://johnryanbydesign.co.uk/product/artisan-naturals/

I would also recommend looking at the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 which has the same amount of natural fillings as the Artisan Naturals but has a more manufactured spring unit which is why this mattress is slightly cheaper than the Artisan Naturals.
