Replacing foam mattress with pocket springs
Hi My wife and I are currently looking for a new super-king size mattress. It will be sitting on a solid base timber. I’m 15st, my wife is 9 st. I know we need a pocket sprung mattress but we’re not sure which one. We currently have a pair pretty firm foam mattresses which neither of us now sleep on too well. We’re wondering if they’ve always been too firm and maybe we should go softer (my sister and her similar sized husband swears their soft mattress). We always went with the perceived wisdom of “the heavier you are the firmer the mattress should be”, or is this just an inaccurate urban myth?
We also both get quite hot a night so don’t want to have materials which will exacerbate this. One other issue is that we’ve never had a mattress which has large dimples in it, such as Origins Pocket 1500, and we’re not sure we’d get on with this that well, preferring the looks (at least) of the smoother surfaced Origins Pocket Latex 1500, although not sure if Latex is the correct materials for us. Thank you for your enquiry via our website. The Origins Pocket Latex would be a cooler sleep surface than the Origins Pocket 1500 but at your wife’s body weight she would probably find this mattress too firm. Natural fibre filled mattresses create the coolest sleep surfaces, so the Artisan range will be cooler than the Origins range, which contain more man-made fibres.
Tufting is essential to any pocket sprung mattress that’s worth it’s weight as they hold the fillings in place. If you do have a sensitivity to this then you might be better purchasing a pocket sprung mattress but adding a separate topper to it to tweak the comfort layers.
Any of the mattresses in our Artisan range can be produced with a dual spring tension, a medium for yourself and a soft spring tension for your wife. These spring tensions would give you both the correct level of support. The comfort layers are then dictated by your personal preferences and sleeping habit.
