Replacing mattress slats with boards, should I ventilate?

Hello Iam buying a new mattress and looking at removing the slats and fitting 18mm mdf to support the new mattress, would I need to ventilate the mdf or cover with a sheet thank you

Hi Dean,

Thank you for your question.

Good quality mattresses should come with ventilation holes in the sides or at least have a breathable cover. As you are covering your base with heavy duty 18mm MDF, I would suggest that you still place a blanket or cheap duvet over the MDF to prevent any splinters of wood catching the mattress.
