Support and softness?

We require a superkink mattress, I have osteoperosis in spine and hips and we have at present a memory foam mattress topper on our mattress this helps aleivate pain. My weight is 8 stone 4 lbs. My husband weights 12 stone 10 lbs so we wish to find a mattress that is suitable for us both, me for comfort and to support my hips and spine and for my husband who weights more and would not wish the bed to be too soft causing back problems. We both need support, as nothing worse is a bed that sinks in the middle!!

Hi Joy,

Thanks for your question.

By the sounds of it, I take it your mattress is due for renewal as it should not be sinking in the middle, nor should you be describing it as soft which makes me think it is a cage sprung system rather than pocket springs – this alone would be aggravating anyone.

A proper supportive foundation for you both with a comfort layer that also suits you both, such as latex rather than memory foam should be an affordable solution. It might be worth having a look at our Fusion range of mattresses. Latex mattresses are great for pressure relief and will give a very similar feel to Memory Foam but without the heat issues associated as latex is a cooler material.

With your condition, and without being medical experts, we would recommend avoiding anything too firm in order to not exacerbate those pains. You will need a level of support but nothing that will make any pains worse.

On a traditional pocket sprung mattress you would need a dual tension mattress; One half a Soft spring for you and the other half a Medium spring for your husband.
