TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

What mattress spring tensions will suit us?

Hi John/Ryan I’ve trawled your site with great interest and decided to order the Artisans Bespoke double mattress with divan. It will be replacing an ancient Sealy (I know, I know!) Posturepedic UltraLuxe Ortho Sleep with a Torsion 2000 sprung base. I am 6 ft tall and weigh 14 stone, my wife 5ft 2 and weighs in at 8.5 (max) stone. I have previously undergone back surgery and not to put too fine a point on it the back’s knackered. My wife has suffered disc displacement in her neck which frequently troubles her. I emailed you to discuss my requirements and Marie from your office kindly phoned to explain the options available. I am waiting for fabric samples for the headboard but in the meantime, and perhaps this will be of interest to others (and get a fast reply!), I am still a bit puzzled as to what spring tensions would be best for us. Marie suggested medium for my side and soft for my wife’s half but I was reluctant to have different tensions in the same mattress. However, after delving anew around your site I think this would, indeed, be the preferred option as you stress the importance body weight has in mattress selection. How do you see it?

Can you improve on these suggestions – different tensions, different bed model perhaps?

I see that Vi-Spring, on their site, issue the following mattress support guidelines: Up to 11 stone (70kgs) SOFT 11-16 stone (70-102kgs) MEDIUM 16-20 stone (102-127kgs FIRM Above 20 stone (127kgs) EXTRA FIRM Would those recommendations hold true for your mattresses?

Thanks for your help and I look forward to your comments (and the samples) You have a great site by the way!

Thanks for getting in touch.
Your sleeping habits/personal preference will then determine how you would like the mattress to feel in the comfort layers. This is where you will achieve the feel you are looking for (soft/medium/firm). Do you know if you have a preference for a soft, medium or firm?
If you do not, I would advise to go out and try the;
Vispring Devonshire – Soft in upper layers – Comparable with the Artisan Luxury
Vispring Regal Superb – True medium in upper layers – Comparable with Artisan Bespoke 004
Vispring Herald – Firm in the upper layers – Comparable with the Artisan Bespoke

This is then to be paired with the right spring tension based on your body weight

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

I hope that helps and if you have any further questions please get back in touch on 0161 437 4419 or [email protected].
If you want further help it maybe best t give us a call and we can go through the specifics such as the comfort feel you require and any other specifics.
We look forward to hearing from you.
