Rattan Bedroom Furniture: Bringing Natural Elements into Your Space

Adding rattan furniture to your bedroom is a great way to infuse natural warmth and charm into the space. In this article, we're jumping into all the benefits and styling possibilities of incorporating rattan into your home!

You’ve probably seen rattan furniture in living rooms, sunrooms, and outdoor areas, but it can bring an equally serene, calming vibe to the bedroom too. In fact, this super versatile and sustainable material works like a dream for statement headboards, cosy seating and unique storage pieces too – if you’re looking for a boho vibe!

Benefits of Rattan Furniture in the Bedroom

One of the main benefits of rattan is that it is an exceptionally durable material, perfect for furniture.  It has a dense core and hard outer skin that makes it particularly resilient to daily wear and tear. With proper care, quality rattan pieces can maintain their beauty for years, making them a great long term investment. This also makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use too.

Rattan is also a natural and eco-friendly material. Derived from the naturally renewable rattan palm, the material is biodegradable and harvested using responsible methods that minimise environmental impact. By choosing rattan furniture, you’re actually contributing to a greener and more sustainable future too!

Rattan’s versatility is another significant benefit that makes it a favourite among homeowners and interior designers. From sleek and modern designs to classic and traditional styles, rattan furniture can beautifully blend into a wide range of décor aesthetics. Whether you prefer a minimalist look or a more ornate and intricately woven pattern, you’ll definitely find something that suits your personal taste.

Rattan Bedroom Furniture Ideas

The natural beauty of rattan makes it a perfect choice for creating a serene bedroom feeling. From statement pieces to functional accents, rattan furniture offers a great range of options to incorporate into your bedroom.

  • Rattan beds and headboards

For a truly tropical-inspired bedroom, consider investing in a rattan bed or headboard. Rattan headboards, in particular, can serve as a stunning focal point, instantly elevating the overall aesthetic of your bedroom. The intricate woven patterns of rattan add a touch of organic elegance to the space.

  • Rattan dressers and bedside tables

You can complement your rattan bed with matching dressers and bedside tables. Not only do these functional pieces provide great storage space but they also contribute  to the cohesive look of your bedroom. Rattan dressers and bedside tables aren’t all the same, they can come in various styles, from sleek and modern designs to more traditional and ornate patterns. There’s an option to suit every taste!

  • Rattan accent chairs or benches

Granted you have the space, you could also create a cosy reading nook or a relaxing seating area in your bedroom by incorporating rattan chairs or benches. These pieces can be positioned next to a window, at the foot of the bed, or even in a corner, giving you a comfortable spot to unwind or get ready for the day.

In addition to dressers and nightstands, rattan storage solutions (such as woven baskets, trunks, or shelving units) can help keep your bedroom organised and free of clutter. Not only do they offer ample storage space, but they also contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of your bedroom.

Styling Tips

To make the most of your rattan pieces and create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere, consider the following styling tips:

Mix and Match

Rattan furniture blends beautifully with so many different materials. You could pair your John Ryan By Design headboard and bedframe with a pair of rattan bedside tables for a cohesive natural look. Or, if you have a rattan chair, you may want to place it next to a metallic lamp for that touch of industrial chic.

Add Textiles

Soft textiles can soften the look of rattan furniture. Dress up your rattan bed with cosy throws and plush pillows in complementary colours and patterns. Consider layering a soft rug beneath rattan accent chairs or adding curtains with natural fibres to enhance the cosy feel.

Decorate With Plants or Artwork

Incorporating plants or artwork into your decor brings life and personality to your bedroom, even if you don’t have rattan furniture. But when coupled with your rattan furniture, it can transform your space! Greenery adds freshness and vibrancy to the space, regardless of whether it’s placed in woven baskets beside your bed or displayed on rattan shelving units.

How to maintain and care for Rattan Furniture

While rattan furniture brings natural beauty and charm to your bedroom, you’ll also need to take proper care of it to ensure it lasts for years to come.

Cleaning rattan is refreshingly straightforward. For general cleanliness, vacuum regularly using a brush attachment to dislodge any dust or dirt trapped within the weave. To remove stubborn grime, mix a few drops of mild soap with warm water and use a soft cloth or sponge to gently wipe down the rattan. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners as they can potentially dry out and damage the material over time!

It is also fairly moisture-resistant thanks to its tight weave and natural oils. However, it’s still wise to blot up any spills promptly before liquids have a chance to soak in deeply. If rattan does get saturated, allow it to fully air dry before using again to prevent mould or mildew growth.

While rattan can handle indirect sunlight, it’s best to protect pieces from prolonged direct sun exposure. Ultraviolet rays can cause the natural fibres to dry out and fade over extended periods. Therefore, you should protect with blinds or curtains, or periodically rotate rattan furniture to distribute sun exposure evenly.

Minor scuffs and abrasions are bound to happen with normal wear, but these can be easily buffed out using a very light grit sandpaper or wool furniture pad. For deeper scratches or stripped areas, you can use a rattan scratch repair marker specifically designed to camouflage blemishes.
