Do we need a split tension?

A customer asked

John/Ryan, just want to clarify a point. Contacted the office today by phone to determine what could be the right mattress purchase for us. Husband is 83kgs and suffers with chronic back pain (shoulder to hips) with a tendency to sleep on his side and I'm around 50kgs and sleep on my stomach or side. Currently have a kingsize full memory foam mattress which seemed to suit us some 7 years ago but we're both waking throughout the night trying to get comfortable and aching in the morning. We were advised that your Artisan Naturals with a split tension (medium/soft) would fit the bill or for a bit less money the tailored pocket would suffice, although price isn't an issue. Having read many email questions and responses on your website, my question is whether we need a split tension bed based on my weight being <9st or whether I would get the desired 'comfort' on a medium tension mattress?

Look forward to hearing from you soonest (we'd like to catch the next order date). .

Hi Fran.

The Artisan Naturals utilise a calico pocket sprung unit with the capabilities of having the gauge of spring wire tailored as close as possible to suit your bodyweight. The recommendation of medium for your husband and soft for your 8st frame is absolutely correct. There is a difference of 5 stone between you which cannot be ignored. The term 'Soft' relates to the mattress-guide/" title="spring">spring gauge - it does not necessarily follow that the overall tension on the finished mattress equates to a 'soft' mattress.

The recommendation of the soft spring tension for yourself is coupled with the fact that there is also in excess of 4 kilos of upholstery per square meter on top of this - and this really is an above average amount - should give you the perfect mattress and with the same considerations for your husband, the perfect mattress for him.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419

John and Ryan.
