Help on new mattress and ottoman base

A customer asked

Hi, My dodgy Miracoil Rebecca mattress that I have had since 2009 seems to have died. (Which may explain my backache.) I have decided to replace with a higher quality product (I am currently considering on of your artisan luxury range) - at the same time I want to go from a double to a kingsize bed, despite their being only me in it. I also want a bed that looks nice and has decent storage options, so I am currently considering the Arran Oak Ottoman bed offered by time4sleep. But. It has sprung slats. (Almost everything does, which seeing as they are not great for most mattress types seems quite odd really. Also I really don't understand why every one makes slatted headboards, surely no one finds them comfy to lean on ?) I wanted to ask if you thought bunkie boards or tatami mats laid over the slats might be effective ?

I was wanting something a less heath robinson than the mdf. I don't want to go for a divan bed, because I am asthmatic so I try to minimise fabric in my decor. >

Hi Frances,

Thanks for your question.

I have been unable to ascertain details of the fillings and construction of your current mattress and it may be that this has been replaced by another model since you bought it.

In any event, we would not be able to confirm that our Artisan Luxury would be comparable as it is unlikely that specific build details would be provided.

Our Artisan Luxury mattress is the softest mattress that we retail in those top layers. This will give you that luxurious sink in sensation. Whilst we can't confirm it will compare to the model you mention, this model is one that we compare to the Vi-Spring Devonshire that can be found in stores such as Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed. It will always be worth testing these comparison models as we are an online only retailer, having no showroom of our own.

I'd recommend checking the gaps between the slats; If you find that they are bigger than 3" then you would need to board them with MDF, plywood or pegboard when being used with our Artisan range of mattresses.

Our headboards are full board designs covered in fabric from top to bottom. Please see the link here for full details on our headboards.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Mike.
